Default Hi there from Down Under

I have just placed mt order for the new Freelander 2/LR2 and have opted for the 2.2 Diesel HSE.

All the reviews both in magazines and online have been very complementary.

After nearly 4 months since its release in the U.K (I think), are there any issues I need to be aware off?

In Australia - it will be the exceptionally poor resale value - the car will be overpriced for Australian tastes as Landrover wants to target the BMW X3 but the buying public sees the freelander in the X-trail, Rav, forester class and as such considers them over priced (there has not been one sale of a new current Freelander in Aust in 2007).

The current Freelander has a poor reputation for reliability and even if the new model is great it is going to take a long time to live that poor reputation down.

I too, would like a new Freelander to replace my XEDi but I am not prepared to loose so much money with poor resale value.

Sell me yours when you go to trade it in - I will give a good price

Enjoy your new car but keep it a long time.

Thanks Gary,

I will actually be passing the car onto the misses after 2 or 3 years. I would have preferred the Range Rover Sports but not in a position $$$ at the moment.

Apparently, LR have taken numerous orders over the past fortnight. Not sure how accurate this is though.

You are correct in LR targeting FL2 against X3 but I dont think its a contest. Coming in $15K less and better off-road capability (according to overseas reviews) it no contest in my books. Add to this the bag of extras you get in the FL2 compared to X3 or any other brand including RAV, Xtrail etc. Sure its around $10K more then RAV's etc, but you are getting ,ore equipment and better off road as well...

I have tested both the X3 & X5, and test drove the Pajero, & Xtrail......did'nt like any of them.........nearly purchased the Grand Cherokee but was struggling with the handbrake etc.....also the new GC 2008 coming out late this year...I thought FL2 would be better option.

Just ponder this... Consumer reports (in the US) couldn't/wouldn't recommend the X-5. And yes, I too think that the new "lander" is pretty sweet!! Cheers!

I agree with you but people buy BMW because they are BMW not because how good they are or how good they are not - cost or value for money is not an issue - the badge is.

Freelanders success will not depend on how good the car is buy how well Landrover can convince BMW buyers that the Freelander has the same snob value. As far as the jap cars are concerned - these buyers will always buy on price and the Freelander can never compete and the for the money there are more capable 4wd small cars available eg Suzuki Vitara - dual range and capable but less luxurious.

Cheers

Aloha I just put in my order for the new LR2. From what the dealership told me. He has 7 LR2's coming in and he has them all sold except for the demo. I had to get a new truck so I decided to get another LR. I was looking into the BMW X3 but the LR2 was a better deal. I hope the LR2 will be good on gas

Default Spare Parts for the new Freelander 3 (LR2)

Since I have placed my order in for the new Diesel HSE in Australia, spare parts are almost no existant.

Would anyone from either U.K, Europe or U.S be able to assist in finding out the item number for the side steps as well as cost?

As I suspected, they are too expensive once they become available down under.......

You probably found it already, but just in case you didn't...

Thanks MacLR2,

Really appreciated......

Suppose you own a LR2/Freelander 2 gathering from your forum name?

Happy with it and any issues with it yet?

Yes, 1 month of ownership and all it's well.
