How do I change tranny fluid? Also shifts hard 1st/2nd gear - Land Rovers Only

I just bought my first land rover freeland SE. Seems like 1st to 2nd gear shifting is a bit rougher than other SUV's. Is this normal? Also, is it possible to change the tranny fluid on my own?

Wow!! I didn't know it was so hard I can't get a response. I'm selling this piece of crap. I have been told they are known for bad transmissions and they don't deserve the land rover name even on them. Plus, I can't get a simple reply in any forum.

Are you sure its the 1-2 shift? The trans doesn't seem to use 1st very much in everyday driving, geared very low. Seems 3rd gear is usually the problem - mines a little funny now.

Did you try searching for older posts re: trans issues?

I hear changing the trans fluid is easy.

If I recall, back when I had my hippo the dealership did a software update to smooth the shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Take it by the local LR store and see if all of the recalls are up to date.
