Default I need the fuel pump removal tool... or do I?

I think the fuel pump on my 02 freelander is dead. Can it be removed without the removal tool? If so can anyone tell me how and if not where can I get the tool?

thanks Brian.

Sorry I didn't see this post until now. I recently replaced mine, and I found the job was relatively easy with using a special tool. I just used a hammer and screwdriver to turn the retaining bracket a few inches so the unit can be lifted out. Be careful to apply much pressure to replace it though. Either have someone stand on it (yeah, you need that much force) while you turn it or you can do like I did and stand on it yourself, while twisting it. It can be done.

There is a recall on the FL that you might want to look into. Problem with the fuel filter. I have read elsewhere that they replace the fuel pump as a part of this recall. Hope this reaches you in time.

If you did just buy a pump, ask your dealer about the re-embursement program for customers that just bought one because of the recall failure.
