Sorry I didn't see this post until now. I recently replaced mine, and I found the job was relatively easy with using a special tool. I just used a hammer and screwdriver to turn the retaining bracket a few inches so the unit can be lifted out. Be careful to apply much pressure to replace it though. Either have someone stand on it (yeah, you need that much force) while you turn it or you can do like I did and stand on it yourself, while twisting it. It can be done.
