Key fob issues, 2008 LR2

I own a 2008 LR2. I recently change the battery to one of my two original key fobs with a new Panasonic VL2330 (per instructions posted on a prior thread). After changing the battery, the key does not work. I have had the fob tested at local battery supply shop, they tell me the fob is operating correctly, it is just not being recognized by my vehicle. Is there a synchronizing process that needs to done after changing the battery? My owners manual is not much help.
Thank you.

Putting the key into the docking station re-synchronizes it, I am unfamiliar with replacing the battery on it though.

Dave, thanks for your reply. I have tried to put the key into the docking station, it will draw the fob in and instantly eject it. I have left the fob in the station for about an hour with no results. One additional note, the fob that I replaced the battery in, had not been used in some time and was probably completely dead when I changed the battery. If you can provide any additional information, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks, Michele

It drawing the key in and rejecting it means that the SCU (key dock) is not accepting, or receiving the code from the key. If the key is transmitting a signal, but it is not being recognized, either it is internally damaged, or the vehicle somehow 'forgot' the key. Did you have any repairs done, namely the CJB replaced or other keys programmed, since the last time you tried to use that key?

No, the only repairs electronic related have been replacing the car battery and a glitch in the navigation system that would not allow you to switch to English. I have owned the vehicle since new. I started to notice problems with the fob just passed my warranty. You had to be very close to the vehicle for the doors to lock and unlock etc and eventually it became too unreliable to use. It sat in a drawer for several months, possibly a year until I ran across the thread on how to change the battery. Initially I thought the new battery was bad so I took the fob with new battery to a battery shop and they tested the battery (3 volts) and the fob for a signal. All was fine per the tech.

There is a chance it will reprogram, but I'm doubtful, as the key does not 'contain' the programming, the car learns the key. It sending a signal does not mean that it is good, just that it can emit a 315Mhz frequency, but what it is transmitting could be complete nonsense to the car. Most places that will test a remote do not have the equipment to see what kind of signal is being sent, just to see that a signal is being sent.

I will take the fob with me next service, hopefully the LR Service Dept. will be able to resurrect it once again.
Thanks for all your help.

On the LR2, most likely cause for the remote not working is the key's internal battery failing.

The RF receiver(what picks up the signal from the remote) is the same for the remote and for the TPMS, so if there is no TPMS issue, then you can assume the receiver is good. If the key starts the vehicle, it is programmed.

Where is the RF receiver located on a LR2? Someone hit my front bumper and my key fob will no longer open my doors.
