LR2 rear brake pads change with electronic hand brake

2013- 2015 LR2. With the hand brake off, the ignition off, the caliper removed, and the old pads out, remove the hand brake electric motor from the caliper. Unbolt the 2 T30 bit head bolts mounting the motor and gently twist the motor off as it is sealed on with an O ring. With the motor off you see that it drives a round plate with a T45 gear in the middle. Using a T45 bit inserted into the center gear, just hand twist the bit in the gear clockwise turning the plate several rotations until it stops. Now the the electronic hand brake has retracted and you can push the caliper piston in using a flat disc on a caliper piston retraction tool. It pushes straight in, not with a rotation. Once the piston is retracted, remount the electric motor back onto the caliper using the 2 bolts, install the brake pads and remount the caliper to it's bracket. Install the wheel, pump the brake pedal a few times, then change the pads on the other side using the same procedure. Check your brake fluid reservoir so as to not overflow and proper level. Once both sides are done, start the car, pump the brake pedal a few times, then apply the electric hand brake. You will hear it cycle on for a few seconds until it stops and is applied. Then release it and you are good to go with the new pads break-in procedure. With this method there is no need to connect the vehicle to a scan computer to release the hand brake (in order to retract the caliper piston) and then reset the vehicle's computer.
