Default LR2 tailgate locks/unlocks itself

I opened my tailgate yesterday, then when I went to close it , it would not stay locked. The latch mechanism would continuously operate, locking and unlocking the tailgate as I drove off. I was able to he it to stop by locking the tailgate using the fob. I figured the problem was solved. This morning, I went to start my car to find the battery was dead I assume the locking mechinism was operating thoughout the night.
Does anyone have any experience , insight, or advise?

ugh, charged the battery a bit to turn it over and get an HDC error,no transmission found etc the car basically died with the key fob stuck in the ignition. One of the relays in the fuse box was clicking- R5.

A couple months ago, my rear hatch stuck itself in the 'open' position also. Wouldn't lock or respond to button. I took it in just under warranty and they replaced the rear latch mechanism in the leftgate and it's been great ever since. Not sure if this would cure your relay problem though. Does the users manual say anything about that particular relay? Look at this .jpg I pulled from a technical manual document and see if it helps track the problem down. Wish I could attach bigger .pdf's!
Cheers!
Doug

Here's descriptions of the fuses implicated in your relay:

Fuse F39 Pollution sensor, air intake stepper motor, LH temperature blend stepper motor, RH temperature blend stepper motor, face/feet distribution stepper motor, windshield (defrost) distribution stepper motor

Fuse F45 Cigar lighter/accessory socket

The HDC and other errors are due to low battery voltage. Charge it fully and that should sort things. As for the tailgate lock, have a look on the British freel2.com website. They have a thread detailing refurbishing and changing the locking mechanism. Try Freel2.com - View topic - How to fix the tailgate switch
