it depends on what kind of terrain you be trying to overcome. im not from colorado but there a few guys here who could give you some better info.
though, recovery gear would be something you would regret leaving behind. a strong tow-strap and some recovery points. a shackle & receiver combo. water, food, ![]() an air compressor to manage the the tires. any tools or spare parts that you could dig up just in case something bad happens.... discomike would know exactly what.. goodluck

Charles Wells Colorado Trail Guide Books 1 & 2.
Use the trail rating system to decide the level trail you will tackle. Measure your clearance under the vehicle and the trail guide says generally what size rocks will be on that trail. A nice general guide. I think you can get them at Borders online or Amazon. Any off roader should have water, food, good shoes, warm clothes (snows in Aug. at high altitude sometimes), recovery points solidly attached to vehicle, tow straps, correctly sized spare, know how to change a spare, oil, coolant, another vehicle to trail ride with, etc. Common sense is the best thing to have. Check out the Solihull Society site for trail runs we have planned around the time of your trip. Some people on that board have a great wealth of knowledge of the state and the state's trails. Good Luck

check TrailDamage.com.
ask funrover or toyota_jon for a set of sliders. you'll need them in the rocky terrain of CO, you don't wanna be slamming your body down on rocks in creeks or just on dry ground.

I found that a skid plate and some square steel tube (to act as sliders) to sandwich the sills were very helpful.
You can make a skid plate out of aluminum diamond plate stuff attached to the frame of the factory skid plate. It would be much more effective than stock. Have fun with the Freelander. ![]() ![]()

A full checking over of all the belts, hoses, fluids, air filter, water, first aid kit, spare engine, blanket, complete recovery gear(strap tow points high lift) a full size spare(don't know if the freelander comeswith one). A gps/compass maps of the area.
You get the idea lol oh and a cb radio.

Well first off, Have fun well you are out here!! Let me know if you have any questions as the time nears! but items to have
1. Charles Wells books 2. Food, water 3. Tow Rope 4. Basic Tools 5.Recovery Points Out of curiosity where in CO are you going? I will help as much as possible! There are many trails here in CO you can do totally stock, so you will be fine! Online research for trails: TrailDamage.com 4x4Trails.net If you are planning on going to harder trails I would highly recomend skid plates and sliders! |
