Passenger Airbag - Land Rovers Only

Hi all,
Please, does anybody knows any trick to disable passager airbag?
My Freelander is a TD4 '00 and I need to transport a baby in this place.
Believe or not, in order to make this change (wich is mandatory in Portugal), you need to pay a lot of taxes!!!!!

YOu may not disable the passenger side airbag whatsoever.

If you do it disables the entire system.

Only vehicles such as trucks with no seats in the back have a switch that allows the air bag to be turned off.

Just done the job:
Cut cable
Add switch to enable/disable
Everything working fine
This forum doesnt help...

Seriously, Airbags work off of resistance. If there is the slightest resistance the entire system will shut down.

You dont understand what you have done. Airbags need zero resistance or else they wont fire.

Just because you drive around with no light doesnt mean in an accident it wont work. Not only that but resistance will build up over time.

You may have saved your child for the short period of time but you have doomed anyone who will ever sit in that seat including yourself.

Hi. Okay so we've established that you can do it yourself, although at a rather high risk! I was wondering, Beezle, you said that you cant just disable one side without affecting the whole system.....is it possible to disable the entire lot...legally! My baby is due in July and ideally would need to be in the front 90% of the time...but obviously not with an airbag!!

Any ideas on how I would do this?

Its not recommended seriously, Most smart people put a baby seat in the back. Its safer back there. And without an protection the baby could be seriously injured by flying debris as well.

. Thats what I will do then!! I would also add that smart people do their research before tampering so arguably Im not too short of brain cells as the rear of my car on occasions, when used for horse items would most certainly be more unsafe for a baby!! Thank you for your quick response and I will put my baby in the back whenever possible to avoid the possiblity of flying debris!!

I want you to know I edited my first response after I said it. But it didnt go thru for some odd reason. I do not want you to pull the fuse. Seriously ask yourself do you love your family?

SRS has only one function and that is to save your life. If you need more room either upgrade to a larger vehicle or reevaluate your needs for the vehicle and your family. This is serious. If your wife and kid get into an accident it might save your kids life but your wife might be seriously injured from not having an airbag.

Put a Thule box on your roof and put your crap in there. Put the kid in the back seat where it belongs. I've worked many accident scenes and I can tell you without a doubt that child seats in the front are a bad idea.
Then again, Darwinism is a real thing.

Indeed Darwinism is a real thing.....also I am the wife!! and advice taken....If I cant persuade hubby to get the next size model then baby seat will infact go in the back and will leave the airbags well alone!! Thanks for your advice and I will also be popping back into my local baby store to let them know that advising which car seat is best and to get the air bags disabled to prevent an accident whilst still being able to keep an eye on your baby is a really BAD idea! ....appologies, I am not stupid, nor would I ever do anything to intentionally jeopardise a life however, if you are advised this kind of thing then assume it is the "norm" after all airbags are a farely recent invention in the whole scheme of things. (just wanted to clarify incase the hostility then I was sensing wasnt just hormones!!!

).
Oh and excuse my ignorance for not having "worked many accident scenes", and for not knowing how airbags work....Unfortunately my education stems to criminal law and sociology so thank goodness for helpful forums that give advice (and a slap!) where needed!
