Default Penny Pinching DIY 2008 LR2 Owner

I bought a brand new 2008 LR2 right off the line 2 years ago. My decision was based on 4 wheel drive capability, fuel mileage, and towing capability. I am a contractor and this vehicle never fails to amaze me for a SUV that gets a real 24 HWY and 18 CTY, 16 Towing.
I haul my 22 foot Bayliner ski boat, my single axle trailer with up to 2 tons of material and I have been trying to get it stuck for 2 years, pretty regularly, and I haven't been able to yet.
All I can say after 2 years is WOW!
I am enjoying the forums on this site and my 2 yr. old LR2 is fantastic. It already has 65K miles on it (free service warranty expired) and I am happy to say I completed my first LR oil and air filter change yesterday on the 3.2 I6 all by myself. They really pack that thing in there. I had never messed with a canister-style oil filter before, but I really liked it once I got it apart and was able to get a closer look. 25.5 MM socket wrench! I put in 8 quarts of full synthetic and it should be good for another 8K miles or so. Savings from dealership...about $250.00. I have already changed out all my brake pads DIY at 50K (Dealership savings was about $750.00 because no after-market pads available yet, so I had to purchase from dealership. Pads alone cost a little over $300.00 at dealership) and changed the factory tires at 40K. I actually found some brand-new Hankook tires with the same specs as the Continentals online for about a third of the cost of what I found shopping around for replacements at tire dealers and about a sixth of the cost to have LR dealer do it. Been very happy with these!

I have a 2008 LR2 also! I switched tires after 5,000 miles and upgraded to Nitto Terra Grapplers which have performed admirably. I get a lot more traction, but a little worse gas mileage because they're a bit bigger than stock. I also had the roof rack and trailer hitch reciever package installed so that I can carry my mountain bikes, canoe, yakima roof rack, hi-lift jack, and shovel on-board but outside my vehicle so that the enterior stays nice and clean. I haven't had the trailer wiring installed, yet because it's so expensive and I don't have anything to trailer around. Right now I have 36,000 miles on it and my next big thing will be using spacers in order to clear even wider and taller tires. I think I'll be able to fit 32" Nitto Trail Grappler M/T's or BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KM2's on the stock rim and without trimming which will make my LR2 uber. You can see videos of my LR2 in action in Ocala National Forest if you go to YouTube - tymurrell's Channel . Glad to hear there's someone else out here who isn't afraid to wheel their LR2!

Default Wheeling in LR2

So where did you find the Hankook tires online? Looking for some replacements now and hope that they get cracking on the break pads too. Also did you have to buy the oil filter from the dealer? I get back from Afghanistan in Feb and will have to change the tires. Also anyone got any info on Roof Racks for it. I want to get OME but that shit is WAY too exspensive. Can I get OME and install myself? I mean that shit can't possiblly be that hard.

First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country. I appreciate that you are there preserving our freedom. You are a true HERO.

Hello and yes you can install it yourself and yes it is expensive. I cannot see paying $795 for a rack. So, I went used and found one on a forum for $225.

Atlanticbritish.com has the expensive ones you can referance online and then go find one used.

Landroverguy.com is a great used resource.

Be safe, return soon.
