Default Why do you love your Freelander?

There is so much hate for this car, I have found. But many here love it despite the pain.

Simple question: Why exactly?

Well that settles that. Either (a) Nobody loves the Freelander, or (2) the love can not be put into words.

I'm leaning towards "a"

I love the way my 2003 looks but it is turning out to be a lemon. 3 months of ownership and 4 trips to the shop. I guess I should have bought a Grand Cherokee like I had planned originally.

Freelanders across the country will make a plethora of great canidates for the "cash for clunkers" program and Land Rover will be happy to sweep them under the carpet and forget they ever made them!

Wow, so much negativity. I love my Freelander. I have an '04 HSE and it's done great! It pulls my little boat, hauls lots of camping gear on my roof rack and in the cargo area, and gets me around town also at a reasonable MPG. It doesn't rock crawl or anything, but it'll climb a mountain and get me out of sandy, muddy and hilly spots like no other compact SUV would. Gets me to some scary places in the woods great for mountain biking. I've got a Thule rear-tire mounted bike rack. The power rear glass is such a wonderful feature too -- that's probably what keep me hanging on to it. Sunroof is great! It's been put through the paces for sure! I've only had minor problems with it so far with the exception of a window regulator gone out (replace myself) and a coolant leak recently around a temp sensor seal. I'm sure I'll grow into a new LR2 sometime in the next year or two, but for now I'm happy. Very versatile and suits me very well. I'm a very enthusiastic minority at the local Land Rover Rally, SCARR!!!

PS, LR dealerships can't participate in the cash for clunkers program: No LR for sale gets good enough combined gas mileage! I checked.

I love driving mine, and how it looks and feel. And in 9 months -- no problems other than a lock actuator going bad.

Here's the catch, I have only driven it 3,000 miles in that time. And I am living on borrowed time-- 84,000 with the original (I think) timing belt.

Default I Love Freelanders too

For all the complaints about it, the Freelander still has best in class off road performance, a nice higher driving position, and wonderful luxury features. So maybe earlier models had reliability problems, but now, for a small SUV, what's not to love is the real question.

i luv my freelander 2001 3door V6 - loved it even more after it had its second engine before 60,000 klms (yep V6 not a 1.8) hoping i dont need a 3rd engine or gearbox anytime soon - its a fairly versatile vehicle, capable and fun to drive, my kids love goin out in it - and more importantly my Alaskan Malamute loves it the most - he gets to ride in the back and check everything out - the only reason i bought the car was for the dog - we all couldnt fit into the 2door Cougar - so a 2nd car was necessary - i have put just about every LR original accessory onto it - plenty of decent freelanders at the wreckers, just dont go looking for engines.. none of them have any !
