Default 110 Camel Look Alike for sale

I am reluctantly putting up my beloved Bidaloo 110 Camel Look alike for sale.

Its a 62 series II but rebuilt on a new frame with defender bits. Currently registered in Ohio. Please check with your DMV to ensure registration requirements.

I was wondering, your site on ebay says theres a 300 tdi and the vehicle in walnut creek, does california state regs allow diesel conversions? I've been curious about it and I was tinkering with the idea of brining my car over to east coast rover to see if they could swap engines and put in a new 300 tdi. I know you looking to sell your car but I was wondering if the reason you were was because califorinia regs dont allow diesel engine swaps?

Default Illegal

This vehicle is totally and utterly illegal in this country if it was discovered it would have been impounded and the owner arrested and charged with fraud and other motoring offences the vehicle would have been crushed.

It has no connections at all with a 1962 vehicle a bad case of what we here call ringing (illegally changing a vehicles identity) normally associated with the pre 1973 road tax exemption in this country.

If this vehicles history was to be trace via the U.S . authorities back to the uk the current owner could quite well find himself open to legal proceedings.

This is a common trick for people in the US. This is done as we simply cannot (near impossible) import cars newer than 25 years old.

Don't hold back Ons, say whats on yer mind.

I agree, there's a huge difference between hanging a Defender front end on a series truck, and hanging a series ID plate on a Defender.

I doubt any authorities like the MOT, or our DMV has a problem with a guy taking a 109 and putting it on a coil sprung frame, but when he also adds an R380, LT230 and Tdi, Defender front end, windscreen, bulkhead seats, well, you get the picture.
Over here, avoiding a tax isn't the issue, as there's no getting around that. It's our import rules preventing access to Defenders that makes people build them with a VIN that qualifies.
The guy selling the Defender CT lookalike wasn't trying to missrepresent it, he called it a look alike. The ones that get me are the ones selling stuff on ebay, calling them a 2001, whatever.
The simplistic attitude of the DMV is that whatever the paper says it is, is what it is.
In the final analysis, I completely agree with Onslow, as it pertains to altered VINS in the UK, aside from cheating on the taxes, the UK seems to have a huge problem with car theft, and Land Rovers are a prime target. But I also fully appreciate why it's done here; because we can't get the real thing without building it ourselves, and as long as it's done for that reason, and not to missrepresent it to some complete boob, It doesn't trouble me a hoot.
If the Freakin Beaurocrats weren't such complete dickheads about homebuilts, we wouldn't even have to call it a '62 2A

Hey East Coast Rover builds Defender 110's, what would that fall into? A kit car or a different VIN, I dont get it? They say that they put on a genuine defender 110 parts with a 300 tdi so does that make it illegal? I'm just confused with that all, someone please shed light on that.

If you live in California and import from a truck from the UK why is it registered in Ohio? Does Ohio have different registration laws for cars? I saw this truck and thought it was pretty nice, I think it may be hard to explain at the California DMV though.

I would like to know more about this also??? I've seen a lot of Rovers imported, but are they legal? I saw an awesome Defender 110 Crew Cab on Ebay that I'd love to own. But are they registered as kit cars? Or salvaged vehicles? One day I'd love to get one, but I'm afraid it may just be a $40,000+ nightmare. I see other 110's for sale elsewhere online with no mention of the car being rebuilt, salvaged or an assembled vehicle.

Now that Ford owns Land Rover do they have plans on bringing back the Defenders to the U.S. market? I remember the whole issue was about Rover not wanting to put passive restraint (airbags) into the Defender? Is this correct? This could be a whole other thread

ECR stipulates that you must have a donor NAS D-90 of any year to use for your 110 project. Doing this makes it perfectly legal in most if not all cases. You modify the truck and depending on your state laws, then have it reinspected for safety, with the original VIN. You have the title applicably changed and work with your insurance company to have it insured for a stated amount.

Simple.

CA has VERY tough smog laws.. also it would need to be inspected at CA DMV and maybe there's something on this truck that would gve away it's true identity.

Would you have to walk into DMV with the poker face and well planned story on how the vehicle came to be? Or do you register it in another state? I always thought if you were a resident of California you have a limited amount of time to register your vehicle?

about California smog laws, do you think they would allow a 300 tdi diesel engine? Whats the difference from that engine and a 94 or 95 Dogde RAM cummings diesel engine other than that the 300tdi isnt domestic. they both are diesel so do you think if someone upgraded their engine they would allow it?

if you look at the pics the photo is taken in the uk and the "109" ahem has a british number plate so therefore registered illegally in the UK making it just as illegal in the US.
To regulate the modification of vehicles in the UK a points system is used to asses a vehicles originallity,points are awarded for original steering,suspension,engine,gearbox,bodywork and chassis however a new chassis can be used as long as it is built to the original specification of the original chassis and is un altered.
If on assesment the the vehicle does not accrue enough points it must be considered for re registration under single vehicle licensing laws.
So this vehicle would lose its historic title due to the fact it would accrue zero points under this system
