Default $1500--1995 County Classic in Paramus, NJ

ALL: I'm trying to re-post this and get my old soldier truck to go to a good home. I had originally wanted $1500, but honestly I'll take $1000 cash or so (really, a reasonable offer and a good story from an enthusiast would do it).

I need to move the truck by next Monday Feb. 11...

So if you're interested in a GREAT parts truck, or a worthy project, please read on!

I am selling my 1995 County SWB (Alpine white/Sorrel leather). 138k miles on the clock. I am (or rather my Father was) the ORIGINAL OWNER. Truck has been immaculately maintained, always serviced at a Land Rover Dealer, always OEM parts. For years, technicians have tried to buy the truck from me. I have every service record. Car has lived in the Northeast (NY, MA) her whole life.

She runs strong. All electrics work perfectly. The windshields are intact (the rear tailgate glass is less than 2 years old and has no rust on it). 5 weeks ago, I had the rear drive shaft coupler replaced, front pads and rotors done, rear pads done. In the past 9 months, she's had brand new oil cooler lines, head gaskets, oil pan gasket, and front crank seal all re-sealed, brand new alternator (all LR original NEW parts). Transmission was also flushed and serviced at 130k. Wheels are clean, rims are round, tires have 15k miles on them (Michelin Synchrone 2058/TR16 of course--the spare is perfect, 15 mos old).

The bad news: she suffered a SERIOUS hit to the passenger side. A-D pillars. The FRAME IS NOT BENT. But she needs $10k worth of body work. And I just don't have the time to be without my Rover (I already went to TX last weekend and bought a 'substitute'). If you want, send me a PM and I will email you the body shop estimate/laundry list.

The service staff at the dealer will happily vouch for the mechanical quality of the car (I already have a few techs who "may" be intrested, but I want to cover all my bases).

Car is located at Land Rover Paramus in Paramus, NJ (Bergen County), about 15 mins from NYC and easily accessible from all major highways. $1000 or so cash and you can have the title and the truck (my December service receipt for the vehicle was $2300, so I feel like this is a really fair price). You would need to come and get her. She does drive, but the rear lights are bashed in and I suspect you would get a ticket on the highway if you were driving her a long distance (also, the fuel door is a bit mashed so I'm not sure if it opens... I think she has 1/2 a tank in her). So unless you live close, I would think you should be prepared for a flatbed...

She's totally OEM, except no front fog lights/lower front fascia because I ran over a wild turkey years ago (see my avatar picture with my Dog in the foreground). Coil conversion was done in 2001. Transfer case is stuck in high-gear--that was going to be next on my list of work to get done. I literally had the appointment booked at the dealership for the day after the fatal accident!

Interior is clean but well-loved. Headliner doesn't sag, but does show its age. Radio, CD changer work. Again, everything looks like it did the day in July 1995 she rolled off the assembly line. Nothing after-market! Seats move, seat heaters work. I have the factory rubber mats. All electrics work perfectly (had the rear window relay replaced last year).

I have some pictures here. PM me if you're interested. You can also email me directly at lindsay(dot)koval(at)gmail(dot)com. Or call me at 646-287-7404.

Thanks for looking!

Jeez, That would have severely messed up my day. The pics show it to be a really well kept truck. Hope you weren't hurt, and your new one is as a good.
That reminds me why I take the train in when I go into the city. I've come home with loads of scars, but I have yet to F**k up a Metro North car.

such a shame to see a nice rover go down hill like that. looked to be in really good condition minus that accident

Thanks for the "condolences", I just hope someone can make some use of the good stuff I so meticulously maintained.

As I mentioned in another thread, I went to Houston last weekend to buy another 1995 white County. I should have the "new" one up here next week. Looks identical (but won't ever be "the same", you know?) She was a technician's car and still has her air suspension (which I hope to enjoy for a bit before doing the conversion...) And, the transfer case isn't rusted in high gear, so I may even do some 4-wheelin!

The good news, besides the fact that I wasn't hurt (and the fact that the other people who were hurt in the accident will eventually recover): the granny who caused the whole mess vows never to drive again (good thing since she lives around the corner from me!)...

yeah, the reason I got this rover was a similar automotive tragedy like what happened to your RRC. good luck with the new one!

Just for anyone to see how I typically maintain my trucks, here's my Disco. She's currently stowed in a climatised garage whose door is blocked by at least a foot of snow!

I just keep telling myself that the odds of such a catastrophic strike happening to one of my vehicles have just decreased...

Please, if you know anyone at your local Rover garage who may be interested in the truck, feel free to forward info along. Thanks!

Thanks.

John C, the truck is at Land Rover Paramus on Rte. 17S so you'd have to see it on Saturday before 4pm to actually get in and see it since it's behind the gates (they may have even moved it to the other side of Rte. 17 to their Seti Dr. location). Let me see if I can send you a PM with my email address...

Oh man that sucks, Really sorry to see that. That could be a sweet buggy/off-roader or someone?

Funrover, thanks for the nod. In '01, I drove the truck from NYC to CO Springs and spent a few weeks up in the mountains She looked much better then... Ahhh, memories! That was the only time I ever used my snow chains!

Thanks.

Hey John,
If you buy the truck I have a lot of really nice body panels in Alpine white.

Thanks Paul, I was going to give you a call... I'll give you a call tomorrow, I need some parts for a P38.

I went to the dealer but the truck is at the dealer body shop and they are closed on the weekend.

TTYL.

Sorry, John C, I was away from the computer (and only checking email, not the forum) this weekend. The truck is in fact buried in the back of the dealership--right next to one of the technician's custom camouflage Disco and zebra-striped '93 Classic. Just walk around to the rear of the building on 17S. You'll see it parked at the back of the building right by the elevator to the roof. I saw it Sunday evening. Sorry I missed you. Call me (646)287-7404 if you're intersted (applies to anyone else interested in the truck also...) --Lindsay
