You are the not the first individual who has posted a Tdi for sale that was "fully" compliant with state regs. It is a NICE truck (I even like the diamond plate except on the winch), however most of us here also understand the implications and ramifications of driving an automobile that is not registered properly/correctly with the local DMV/DOT.

We have a summer home in McIndoe Falls, VT and my SO has worked VERY closely with the VDOT in the past few years and as an undergrad while attending ROTC at Norwich University. I am *somewhat* knowledgeable with the VT requirements of Diesel automobiles.

Legal or not, I still like it. Who cares about the diamond plate, i'd rip it all off anyway.....along with some other stuff.

Jeez....its the price that kills it dead. I rather get 2 $12k DIIs, 3 $4K DIs and 3 $4k RRCs. and then use the extra 25k to uber-modify one of each and keep the rest as donor vehicles

The TDi can get past the state folks, but the feds will think differently of it.
For that money, one could get a nice NAS one and not deal with the potential problems of a recent import. That cage is horrid.
This is where it's at- this is the one I was playing with this morning.

Don't misunderstand my dislike for diamond plate and my desire to have a 110.
I'd love to have one. I would love to have a diesel one even better. Of course Oklahoma doesn't have the hang up of the coastal states about emissions. A diesel defender would be treated no different than any other diesel truck.
If money were no object.....well you all know the rest.

Good luck with your sale Rutland guy...and welcome to the board.

The cage looks like it was made at Meineke.

LOL...but honestly...I like the back part of that cage - look at pic #3 - I like that better than the NAS version.

I like how it sticks out so far it will catch on trees if you ever go offroad.

I agree with the comments re: the checkerplating; a little too much can be way too much (Diamond plate=US, Checkerplate=UK, not the same)
The roll cage is the result of somone wanting to make a Safety Devices cage, but only had one picture to go from. I'd hate to have to remove it in one piece.
RoverChic, you may know alot about State of VT regs, but if you get to know the Federal specs better, you will see that a 1993 Defender 110 is very easily importable. I would bet money it was always a TDi, and that the vin is correct for a TDi. The rest of the world(ROW) saw very few V8 110s. That may have been the only questionable part of it's importation, since the NHTSA says "substantially" the same. The 1993 has been given a file number by them and that's what makes them pretty easy to bring in legally

It may have the NHTSA "pass" but the EPA won't like that TDi... I'm guessing they just don't know about it.

Terry,

Thank you for the correction on Checkerplate vs. Diamondplate.

You are correct on the fact that since it is a 1993, it is legally registered. I have full EPA and DOT documentation to serious buyers.

I'd like to see an EPA cert on an engine that was never federalized- Which R.I. signed off on it?
