Why would you even risk it when a NAS can be had for less than 73K?? Where are you located in relations to McIndoe Falls? Maybe I will send family down to look at it, and the EPA Paperwork and the current VT Inspection sticker*

*Unless of course you are an "authorized" Inspection Station.

Once a vehicle gets an eligibility number ( Defender 110 is VSC212 I think)
The use of an RI is no longer necessary. RIs don't 'sign off' they make the submission, (and then run and pray) The words "Substantially Similar" holds some latitude for interpretation, but in the begining, during the submission process to get that number (VSC212) The RI was to have gotten a letter from the Mfgr (Land Rover) stating that it was sub.sim.
Notice that the language doesn't say anything to the effect that it is 'identical'.
The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards used in the determination are those which were in place at the time of manufacture (as is the case for EPA/DOT) FSC 212 was issued in like 1995. I haven't looked at the VSA/VSC/VSP list in a long time, but I believe I was told that the 90s prior to '97 were recently given an eligibility number and added to the list.
The person making the application for entry is the importer, though a customs broker (this has nothing to do with a 'Registered Importer) can act as agent for the importer. As long as they have a form HS-7 and it has a eligibility number on it, Customs is the sole body examining, and accepting or denying the entry. They don't have 50 individuals representing the 50 states there to also say it is OK, and Customs doesn't give a rats ass what state it goes to after they grant entry. It's up to the importer to determine that it meets the requirementss of the state MVD regs ( ever notice how many dealers there are in the southern states)

In the FWIW dept. The RI who originally made the submission and got the 1993 110 an eligibility number made a huge mistake (well, it probably wasn't a mistake, since he was probably looking out for himself for getting more buiness) because he didn't also list later year vehicles, up to the point where the FMVSS standards changed, which would have also allowed 94s, 95s and probably 96s to fall under the same VSC number. They would have had no difficulty getting Land Rover to say that each of those other year trucks were the same as the 93, i.e. substantially similar.

The cage and checker plate look like poo. Makes me wonder what the inside looks like....

73K??? Nigga please.

You can grab a legit D-110 with low miles for <50k. If you want the TDi, it's a 10k swap to do it "factory like". Less than that is you know how to do it yourself.

He did say "tentatively sold".. Regardless though.. I think that truck is bad luck. I bet it hits over 45K with the reserve not met. He will never get that insane 73K.. Crazy..

Man you guys are haters!

Every single one of us would love to have that thing sitting in our driveways, even if we can't justify the asking price (i.e. I personally would rather have a brand new rangie).
