Default Overall Experience and Satisfactio is 100% good, this LR3 gets 10 out of 10 from me!!

Well, honestly I wish I wouldn’t have to sell it, as it is the best Land Rover vehicle that I’ve ever owned. Compare to my previous two Discoveries (Series I, and Series II) the LR3 just surpasses both on every single aspect of what a sport utility vehicle should be. Even when the LR3 makes it own path away from the classic rustic safari looks from it predecessors, at the end it is just that, the looks is the only thing that one might miss from the Series I & II. But, you have to consider, that the owner of a LR3 is probably to busy enjoying the satisfaction of knowing that it possesses the best of what is out there for a multi purpose, on and off road vehicle.

The only reason that I have to sell my LR3, which was my dream LR, and thought to be my final LR purchase for many years to come is a difference of $22,000 in my pocket. I’m moving to Puerto Rico, which is not a Land Rover friendly country at this moment. Puerto Rico’s current tax legislations have an outrageous method of taxing imported vehicles, even when they are for privately owned purposes. When I started doing the research for my move I contacted their local taxing agency, “Hacienda de Puerto Rico” and they had estimated that in order for me to move the vehicle out of their ports I would have to pay the government $22,000 US DOLLARS. Yeah, and that’s exactly what I though too!!!

They based this tax on the fact that all Land Rovers are consider to be highly luxurious vehicles that overpass what they understand is the average citizen necessity of transportation. I understand that they might have a point there, but still after making the numbers, it wouldn’t make sense for me to pay $22,000 out of my pocket instantly, to just drive the vehicle out of the port and straight into “Hacienda de Puerto Rico” to now pay more fees on vehicle registration other mandatory fees.

I will definitely by another Land Rover. I will surely by another LR3 if they are still available by the time that I have a steady job in Puerto Rico. In the island is not an option, you have to own a 4x4, otherwise your vehicle wouldn’t last long. The road conditions, even on the highways are crazy, the punishment on vehicles it’s amazing. That was the reason why I choose the LR3 in the first place, because I wanted the best, so that I could master the worst condition that Puerto Rico had to dish out. All the potential of my LR3 will leave my hands untested, as even when I gear it up for the worst, the only experiences that I had with it was the daily trips for home to work, and shopping malls with my wife. If you want to know the percentage of its use Off Road, I will have to sadly say 0%. Yes, this was only my “Neighborhood Safari Land Rover.”

Regarding the running cost, we all know that with vehicles as powerful as this 300 HP V8 there is going to be some compromises with the fuel cost. But I will have to say that in comparison with my previous expenses with both the Discovery Series I and the Discovery Series II, there was a noticeable relief in my pocket. The technology invested on the LR3 makes them a far more efficient vehicle than the previous models. Among these types of vehicles it was one small step for Land Rover one giant leap for Discoveries.

I have not made plans yet, as of what I’m going to buy in Puerto Rico. In the island, Land Rovers usually go for $25,000 to $30,000 more expensive than what we pay here in the continental United States. As soon as I get a steady income again I will visit their one and only dealer, Land Rover San Juan and check what they have to offer. I will probably wait for a year until a buy a new vehicle again. So the good way to look at this situation is that I’m giving Land Rover another year to see what new and improved models they will come up for us.

Thanks,

Oscar

Oscar

don't understand your logic, if all LR vehicles are overtaxed by the Govt on import duties than whether taking you existing vehicle or buying another one in 12 - 18 months time you going to still be paying the same odds to the Govt.

Unless your talking of buying an existing LR in country second hand where the previous owner has had to suffer the pain of the tax for you.

Personally l would never buy a new car ever again, you lsoe a third of your dollars after 12 months in lost govt taxes, registration fees and depreciation.
