I've had a number of calls recently about a D90 advertised on craigslist.org, the seller claims it is a "rebuilt 1976"; ad title was... "Land Rover Defender 300 Tdi Turbodiesel (Best Defender Around) -$36000 (san rafael)"
This is, and correct me if I am wrong, FRUAD! To advertise it as such is, so is licensing it at DMV, the buyer could end up losing both his/her money and the car! Even more so if you already knew what it was you were buying!!!! I've heard of sellers getting jail time for this act. Buyer Beware!!

sounds like it is just an SIII - what is the fraud - just what the ad says ? Calling it a Defender and selling as such may be fraud and you can sue him if you purchase on that and it is guaranteed to be a Defender -
Otherwise the DMV won't care - they will simply register a 1976 Land Rover Series III - why would they care how the person advertises it ?
