Some of you longtime users may remember the tale of this 1988 Range Rover, some may not. Regardless, the twists and turns in the life of this truck and the lies told by its final owner should serve as a warning for anyone looking to buy a truck, that they need to do their homework.
I'll start back at the end of 2004 when RJ decided to put his Range Rover up for sale while it was running and with a complete parts truck for $2500. 1988 RRC and parts truck in NH/ME $2500 Eventually it was sold to Rover88 who, in early 2006 put the truck up for sale here on this board for $2000 obo. Again, it came with a parts truck and was in good working order. The truck didn't sell for six months. Finally, in September of 2006 the truck sold for $1200. Later it was disclosed by Rover88 that the buyer, Rez, never bothered to take the parts truck. FS 88 Range Rover I want to make it clear that I know RJ and don't for an instant mean to imply that either he or Rover88 did anything untoward at all in their efforts to sell this truck. It wasn't until the current owner, Rez took over the truck that things began to smell a bit fishy. Rez bought the truck for $1200 in September of 2006 but, lo and behold, little more than two months later the truck was up for sale again, this time for $1500! The only evident improvement (?) made by Rez was that the truck wouldn't move. Yes, Rez wanted a $300 premium for breaking the transfer case! I kid you not! Read about it here: FS - MA - 1988 Range Rover (Pics/vid inside, 56k no way) Well, needless to say, on a small bulletin board like this he was caught in the act. With the usually name calling he slithered his way off the board never to be heard from again. But, before he left, he made it clear that the truck had been sold. Liars and the lying webs they weave. Here's Rez again! Selling the very same truck he claimed to have sold almost a year ago. I guess he took the suggestion of RoverX and moved his POS to Craigslist in an effort to pull the wool over a less knowing crowd. http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/car/400381822.html I hope this post makes people think twice about what they're buying and from whom. Google is your friend and liars like Rez can be exposed in a matter of seconds. In the words of Sgt. Esterhaus, "hey, be careful out there." |

I feel bad for that Rover... no Rover deserves a life like that. If I had a bigger driveway/yard and of course a bigger wallet, I would rescue it. Then it could at least live out it's last few days at a loving Rover friendly house.
Paul.... though I doubt he would sell it to you after the deserving bashing you gave him, you could always part it. I would strongly consider the wheels & tires. "I put it in reverse and stepped on the gas. the truck didnt move, just revved. So...For whatever reason it will now only engage in 4 lo and 4 hi and drive, but will not drive move when in D (drive) only." Wouldn't this mean it's a driveline issue and not a transfer case problem? ![]()

Kevin,
Those tires are almost five years old by now. I wheeled with RJ back in 2002 and he bought that truck shortly after that. So, figure five years of sitting around with just under one year of no movement at all. I bet they are suffering from dry rot and are out of round. The last '88 I bought was over a year ago and I paid a lot less than what this jerk is asking and I got an ARB rear bumper, new NRP exhaust, brand new genuine gas tank, an aluminum racing radiator, Jacobs ignition system, new Flexilite fans and a ton of another almost new parts. At this point, I get people PAYING ME to take away POS like this. It's not worth the gas money it would take to drive my truck up to New Bedford, MA to collect it. |
