The most important question is: Does it have the CDL nipple on it? If its from 1999, 2000 or 2004 it will.. if its from a 2001 there is a 50/50 chance.

Not sure, I can email you some pics - will you be able to see it? I know nothing about this part except for I bought it for my Disco I, my dealer said it WAS compatable, and it has less than 2k on it. If you'd like pics, then please give me your email address and if you have specific shots you'd like to see let me know.

Here is the CDL mechanism, this whole plate, the 3 bolts and the bolt (aka nipple) sticking out in the middle:

If it has that, then the center diff (CDL) is lockable and more desirable.

I think from the last picture, you can see a circle where it should be right above and to the left of the output shaft.. can't really tell though due to the size.

One last thought- when they said it wasn't the right model, they said they may be able to make it work to where it was either locked all the time or to never lock- not sure if that helps or not.

We ended up getting the correct case for our 94 and it works fine, i just need to get rid of this one!! I've never seen one this new being sold before

Yup, thats the problem.

Disco1s had center diff lock (the handle that goes low-to-high range, can also go to the left, which locks both of your axles together for equal power distribution between the two)..

Disco2s did not have it, but they did use the same transfer case for the first 2 years, so thats why I asked the question as to if it had it or not... if on the disco2 you had the 'nipple' you could add a linkage to engage it.

The 'CDL-enabled' cases are desirable for offroaders who have 01-03 trucks who want the CDL capabilities... if you're not planning on doing much offroading driving, the regular transfer case is fine.

I'd recommend trying EBay, I see them go for a good amount of money there...
