I'm relisting this at a lower price because I need to get it out of my garage. For sale is a complete late model Discovery I 300 Tdi diesel engine with all factory ancillaries including power steering, alternator, radiator, intercooler, etc., new mounts, and air conditioning proper to the 300 Tdi. Also included is the original automatic transmission which is the proper diesel version and transfer case, all original from the donor Discovery. The engine has about 80K miles on it and I am throwing in a brand new timing belt. The motor is a later D1 300 Tdi which originally had the electronic injection pump, but it has been changed to a mechanical one, so it needs no computer to run. Also, the EGR has been removed and blocked-off which improves the highway fuel mileage in a Discovery to around 35-40 mpg. No known issues with the engine or any of the other parts. This is a complete bolt-in for a V8 auto Discovery with the exception of moving the frame brackets forward a few inches, adapting the exhaust, and removing the fuel pump from the tank. I also just received a brand new diesel fuel sender unit to replace the fuel one, so this step is as simple as could be. Located in Champaign, IL and will ship on a pallet at buyer cost. I bought this set-up to install in my own Discovery but need to sell for another project. Photos available on request. Asking price for everything is 4500.00 OBO.
If you don't sell anytime soon, and end up sitting on it Send me an email, I'm not in the position to purchase right now. Blake.Pendleton.LRD1atGMAILdotCOM
Hi there, I believe to do the conversion right, one will also need to have the 300tDi wire harness (for example- glow-plugs wire harness and wire harnesses controlling the sensors and relays under the engine bay), instrument cluster from the 300TDi, ECU for the engine and transmission, 300 TDi frame engine mount and frame transmission mounts and all the sensors and relays under the engine to control all the components on the engine. do you have these items in addition to the complete engine and transmission?
The package is no longer available, but I thought I'd clarify a couple of questions on the install. For the 300 Tdi (except the last ones) there is no computer control. These are very simple motors which really only need three wires to run: one to power the glowplugs, one to power the injection pump, and one to shut off the motor via fuel shut-off. That's it. That's why they can sit in water over the hood and idle all day impervious to the water as long as you have a snorkle. Watch the Camel Trophy videos to see their underwater performance. You can't do this with a computer controlled engine like the TD5. Unless you have one of the last models, with an electronic injection pump, there is no ECU and accompanying sensors. You do need a harness for the glow plugs themselves, and one to connect the injection pump to the ignition switch, and one for the fuel shut-off. One doesn't necessarily need to have the 300 Tdi instrument cluster, unless you must have the proper glow plug warning light. Instead you can just wire the glow plugs to any unused warning light, or mount a separate one on the dash. Alternatively, you could have a separate spring-loaded manual glow plug switch and just hold in on for ten seconds or so before starting. I have this setup on my Military M1009 Diesel Blazer and it works great. Secondly, you do have to move the frame mounts for the diesel, but you don't need necessarily need the proper diesel mounts, though its easier. You can modify the V8 mounts: one stays the same and one has to have the angle relative to the motor changed and rewelded. Auto transmission bolts in the same as the V8 but the manual has a different mount for the diesel. Also need a new exhaust. The best for this is to go straight through without a cat or muffler, as the turbo acts as a muffler. Gives more power, efficiency and lower exhaust temps. However, have to be in an area which doesn't have emissions regs. The V8 fuel lines work, but the EFI pump must be removed and the pick-up modified accordingly. Easiest just to get the proper 300 Tdi fuel sender for 100.00 USD. Also, the power steering lines must be modified from the V8 to the 300 Tdi.

This is a great write-up, and you are right on. There are "jigs" floating around for the proper measurement and install of the motor mounts. Jim Pendleton Pendy Imports has one. The tranny cross member is different. Much bigger and bulkier.
