Exclamation 4 wheeling in the sand with my 06 range rover sport

Recently I went 4 wheeling on the beach with my range rover sport. I had a hard time and almost got stuck. I made sure I was active 4x4 control was in sand mode. At first I didn’t air down but quickly adjusted after struggling in some mildly soft sand. Still after I did air down, I had a very hard time going through the terrain. I had the standard Continental Tires on for all weather. I really don’t want to put off road tire on... Is it possible something is wrong with my 4 wheel drive? I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee before this and i was able to go through everything. Any suggestions?

I can't speak for the RRS but when I first took my LR3 out on soft sand I encountered a similar experience. When it was time to replace my tires I opted for a more aggressive tire and it was like night/day difference really. The factory GY's didn't fare well.

Some will say that driver ability does play a role and I've seen evidence of that. What did you air down to? 20-25psi? Were you in Lo or Hi, manual shifting, DSC on vs off? I don't think it could be the 4wd unless your vehicle showed evidence of that in its warning lights or settings not showing correctly.

Expectations - it would be weird yes if you were on mostly flat terrain but your results could have been expected if say you were traversing sand hills, etc. I've found this blog and I'm pretty sure the user is on most LR forums but looks like a good read to me:

I have found that most factory type tires will do nothing for you on the sand.
An up graded tire running 14 to 18#'s of air and a little driving time on sand and you'll do well.

Thanks from the replies.. I definitely agree with the driver ability and i am always looking to learn.. however i think my problem is needing a more aggressive tire. I have the Conti 4x4 Contact tire that are rated for moderate off-road. Now I have to find a tire that is appropriate.. Some that is good in all-weather, off-road and will not look and sound like an off-road tire.. Any Suggestions?

Well my DII pulled through like a champ in this sugar sand. As you can see it's much different than compacted or wet sand as you'd see closer to the shore. I'm running street tires now and they're almost gone. Looking at Terra grapplers for the next set. BTW, I didn't lower the tire pressure. 35 in the front, 40 in the back.
