Thumbs up Another story!

About 10 years ago I purchased a sportbike bike and went up the mountians with my best friend and went really fast and crashed on my first day in the canyons. My point to this story was being a newbie on a streetbike and I thought I new enough to ride fast and I crashed and I know how much that hurt! I'm in the same situation with my 1989 RR I want to go 4X4 really bad just to see what my toy can do! Any suggestions on my first trip to the mountians? Is there another post I should look at?

Thank you everyone I'm a guy with a million questions!

DO NOT GO OUT ALONE ON YOUR FIRST TRIP!!!

It is important to know your truck's capabilities, but also important to know that one truck cannot handle a lot of situations alone. Even fully kitted out off road trucks cannot always self-recover. Until your truck is well outfitted, don't even think about exploring it's capabilities by yourself.

And when you're going out for your first trip here's a basic list:

Rear recovery point. A warn receiver hitch is a good choice.
One, or two front recovery points.
At least one kinetic recovery rope.
A length of chain, with snatch shackle.
Full size spare with a set of extra lug nuts.
Off road capable jack, with base. (hilift or jackall)
Basic tool kit.
One container of spare fluid, for each fluid, (full oil change volume)
Firstaid kit.
Spool of wire, and spare fuses, couple of spare relays.
Multitool, (like a leatherman)
Spare bulbs for headlights.
Flashlight, waterproof, with two sets of spare batteries.
Spare filters, (air, fuel, oil)
Spare MAF sensor, if needed.
Gallon or two of fresh water.
Nutrition, granola, or trail mix.
Candy, non meltable, for quick energy bursts.
Roll of shop towels, or rags.
Portable air compressor.
Tire valve tool.
Spare schraeder valves.
Tire guage.
Sunglasses, polarized.
Spare set of clothes, with two pairs of extra socks.
Poncho.
Gloves.

Probably a few more that I'm forgetting, as it's early.

But, hope it gives you a starting point.
