Guys I need your help. Many of you have seen my posts from wheeling on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and I know a several of you have been there yourselves.
WELL......... Environmental groups and the Audubon society now want several key beaches closed to 4x4's and the activities that people of the Outer Banks count on for both enjoyment and their employment. These beach closures will have a devastating effect on the local tourist based economy. I would appreciate it if you would read the PleaCast information on the attached link and take 1 min to enter your information and send your own PleaCast. They already have it set up automatically send the letters to all the politicians and groups involved. Thanks for your help!!!! Save Hatteras and Ocracoke Island - PleaCast

Roverthen & Ryan - Thanks! Every person that does this is helping a lot.
Ryan - This doesn't effect the beaches right next to my house at the north end of the Outer Banks. Those beaches are open to 4x4's all year long, they extend from the end of Highway 12 all the way up to the Va. line about 10 miles up. My house is about 1/2mile from the end of Hwy 12. However, a LOT of people enjoy surf fishing, shelling and responsible off-roading on the southern portion of the Outer Banks, myself included. So I appreciate the help in looking out for people who share our interests. Yes, we are still renting our house........renovating two houses at the same time has been killing me....lol But it looks great now! Here's the link: Hill Cottage Oceanside more than 1000ft Home in villagesocean-hill Corolla

From an environmental standpoint; it's a good thing. So in good conscience, I cannot vote. It was a very good thing in Florida, when a majority of our beaches were shut down. But it wasn't all of them. Since they're not trying to shut them all down in NC either, let them pass the ordinance. For future generations to be able to enjoy our world, we have to be the ones responsible enough to protect it. It's a simple thing of what we want vs. what we need.

Not necessarily. Out on the cape it has very little impact at all. The only impact it could really have is the development of sand dunes (which is a big issue out on Nauset. However, that is a natural issue and not a man-made one. The other issue is that of the Piping Plover . But, as was proved last year when they closed the entire beach for almost a month, they control where people are able to drive!
So the question really arises, what are the reasons, truly, for this ordinance to be passed? As for preserving our world for future generations? I'm all for it man, but cars driving around on a beach isn't going destroy our world anytime soon. I haven't been out in NC, but I would assume that sand changes every year just like out on the cape. Any real evidence of vehicles being out there gets wiped clean. |

Never been to Hatteras huh?
The difference is that Hatteras Island's entire economy is tourism........ based upon what???? go ahead guess ! the beach and all the activities that go along with it. The spots they want to close are ALL of the hotspots that people come to go fishing, shelling etc. If I were a resident or business owner on H.I. I'd be pissed that national groups (who have probably rarely set foot on the beach there) were using high priced lawyers to close the beach for the supposed benifit of birds......and put in danger the entire way of life for all the people who live on that island. I really appreciate all you guys that took a few minutes to send the pleaCast to help these people out!!

I'd rather see that the birds have the ability to mate and nest and live on as they have done for thousands of years; than worry about the financial issues of people that have been in the area for only a couple of hundred of years. Especially in the case of a confederate state, which should not have been given any of their political rights back after their sedition in the first place. If business falls by the wayside, and people lose their financial and life styles; they can adapt and retrain, reeducate, and relearn new careers, new life styles, and new futures. That is what is great about the human race. Adaptation and Evolution. If they cannot adapt, then by the basis of survival of the fittest, let them become extinct; figuratively, or literally. Mother Nature cannot be beaten, cannot be overcome, and cannot be compromised with. Our environmental catastrophies, as well as the ever increasing severity and occurences of them; prove that Mother Nature will take her planet back. So why piss her off more, and have her want to do it faster? We, as humans think that because of our technology, that we are the top of the ecological pyramid. But we are always too ignorant, as well as arrogant to remember that without that technology, we are nothing more than the sand that the first building block is laid upon.
