Default Range and Disco Mud Fun And Recovery

This is a long post, BUT it has plenty of pictures (edited so you can see them better) of what took place tonight. Enjoy.

Around 8:30pm I had just gotten done buying some new headlights and installing them when I saw I had a call from my cousin (that owns a Disco). Ends up she got stuck in a little mud hole behind her work. So I started making calls and headed out. Her boss was supposed to get her pulled out but it didn't work. They had used bricks, planks of wood, and a floor jack trying to get her out.

A buddy of mine Alex that has a Cherokee on 33x10.5 BFG A/Ts met me near my house (we had just been out to Callalantee TN wheeling Saturday) and we headed out 30 minutes or so to Concord. On the way I made other calls and ended up calling Dante. Just so happens he lives right near there, so he heads out and gets there shortly before we do. When we pulled up he is all ready hooked up to her and I get a quick picture before he starts to winch. There was quite a group of people/vehicles there, a car, a 2wd pickup, a van, her rover, and Dante's Range. So before they started winching I got a picture of the disco:

Instead of taking video in the dark which I figured would turn out crappier than pictures that I could at least lighten up I took as many pics as possible:

Even in a night time recovery we still used proper safety, putting a towel over the cable to help weigh it down in case it snapped:

The Disco is finally out of the pit:

To be continued.

The pickup, my truck, Disco, and my Cousin:

Dante re-spooling his winch cable:

So then there is talk about my truck going through it. And Dante mentioned wanting to see how my tires would do, so I decided to go through it... 4 times I think. Was a fun little hole, got my truck nice and dirty. So then my buddy in the Jeep went through it a few times. So Dante was next. He went through it a few times, then he dropped into the hole with a little less momentum than the last runs and his bumper didn't clear while exiting the hole. It killed his momentum, and then the M16s just started digging in. If he had a little bit more lift (or momentum) he would have never got stuck. So he got to use my cousin's Disco and a winch point and pull himself out. I didn't get a picture when he was completely stuck, but I got a picture when he had gotten his front end pulled out:

Then I walked over to my cousins Disco to get a picture from a different POV:

Shot of the mud all over Dante's Range as he re-spools his winch line:

A shot that I thought was cool of Alex's Jeep and my truck with just our parking lights on:

(Un-Edited)

After he was pulled out and we talked a few minutes everyone decided to head out. Dante was/is going to Uwharrie Monday to film, I have work other wise I would be going to Uwharrie, and everyone else just wanted to get home. So I took a picture of the aftermath, it is blurry so you can't see the mud on the vehicles really but here it is:

Thanks to Dante for coming out and winching my cousin out. It would have been interesting me pulling her out, but it was good we had a sure fire way (Rover + Winch) to get her out. Thanks to everyone else I called, and to my cousin for actually taking her Rover off-road having fun with it.

haha, glad to see the pics came out alright! That was a fun way to prep for Uwharrie! I can't wait to show you the video! I met up with some guys from RoverTym who brought out an LR3 and a RRC with all the tricks! Then we all went crazy at Uwharrie. We pretty much layed the LR3 on it's side and completely destroyed teh body panels, my driver side hit a tree a few times I almost popped a window out I hit a tree so hard, and the RRC did incredible! We were unable to do Daniel cause the road accessing it was closed so we went right up to Kodak and had our fun! Definately gonna have to try to get up there more often! I've got some good editing to do then I'll get the video up! I'll post some pics tomorrow!

One question: Were those stock road tires on the Disco? If so, I don't know why she would have tried to go off-road with it. Over the years, I've heard so much negative from owners about LR off-road abilities; only to find out they were trying to do sugar sand or mud with street tires. Drives me nuts...

lol i know. but seriously there really isn't anything wrong with wheeling or even mudding with street tires. it is just a matter of picking the right obstacles to attempt and which ones to avoid while knowing the limitations of your vehicle while dicking around with those tires.

it also helps to have half a brain if you decide to go the street tire route lol.

I went home and washed it up before the mud even had a chance to dry, I'm not the biggest fan of mudd because it destroys seals, but I like golf too and appreciate a good hole!
