Was out at Uwharrie today and was parked on the side of Slab Pile and saw 3 Rovers heading out. A VERY NICE cherry red D90 was getting a tow off the trail by I think it was a Silver Disco I or Disco II, fallowed by a dark green Disco I. Guy in the dark green Disco I said something to the likes of "It doesn't do this all the time" in reference to the D90. We were the group with Gold Dodge Raider, Green Jeep Cherokee, and Red Dodge Raider parked around the Poser Rock. If it was anyone from here next time don't be a stranger and we can ride some of the trails together.
I didn't get any pictures of the Land Rovers rolling by, sorry. I have other pictures/videos from the trip, but no Land Rover pics. If my cousin had made it in her Disco I then I would have some of her, but she couldn't make this trip. If people still want to see the non-rover wheeling pics I will post them later after I get done splicing the videos together.
Here is my 4x4wire post quoted over. For reference (since none of these people are on these boards), Mark is the Gold Raider, Mine is the Red, Janet is the campgrounds host at Arrowhead Campgrounds, Joe Darlington is an Isuzu guru off planetisuzu (and so is Doug), and the green Jeep XJ is Joe Darlington's cousin. There are parts where I didn't get any pictures but I got video, so there will be referencing back to the video. The big rock that you see the vehicles posed on is where we saw the 3 Rovers. Also excuse the non-wheeling pics included in here from the campgrounds:

Mark and I got to the outpost around 9am. Decided to head out for a quick trail run, hit Falls Dam going up it.
The rock ledge on Falls Dam is getting more eroded by the year. I went up it first, but Mark's camera was dead at that time so there were no pictures taken:
The soup bowl (or toilet bowl as some call it) was pretty much dry except for a small amount of silty slop. They are carving out a nice rutted area into it that wasn't there even last year.
After the un-eventful Falls Dam run we headed out to the Arrowhead campgrounds to talk with Doug and JoeD. We talked with Janet for a good while waiting for them to get back from breakfast then talked about Raider gearing, manual hubs, etc .
Campsite 21, JoeD's race Rodeo on 34 LTBs:
Janet, JoeD, and Mark in the back ground. Plus JoeD's Silver tow rig Rodeo:
JoeD, Aussie (dog), and Hitch (dog):
Mark had to clean out some mud from his air filter after romping through the soup bowl. The Raider's parked on the side across from the campsite:
After this we decided to do a Slab Pile to Rocky Mount Loop run. Of course we had to tackle poser rock first:
Mark was up first:
I was next:
They say pictures are worth a thousand words. Well those are worth $120. Backing off the rock messed up my exhaust, bending it in 2 places. It was bent down so bad it drug on everything on the way out of the trail. Had to cut the trail ride short and head back to camp. Mark used a sawzall JoeD had brought with to cut it off to get me by the rest of the day. JoeD's cousin showed up in his Jeep Cherokee with his son and wanted to do a trail run. So we decided to head out and finish the 2nd part of our run (Rocky Mnt Loop). But we went down and hit it from the parking lot side.
There aren't any pictures of the double ledge below Kodak Rock (only video). Mark took a harder line, JoeD's cousin and I took the bypass. As you can see in the video he made good use of his sliders. Next up was Kodak rock (when I say kodak rock I include Kodak rock itself, Budweiser rock, and the entire obstacle).
I took the easiest line (besides the bypass) on the far right. If your looking at the picture its the v notched in between the first 2 trees on the right hand side. Got it up no problem, no stopping. This is also the line the Jeep ended up taking in the video. The 2nd tree that is the marker for the end of the first easy line, is the start of the 2nd easy line (but harder). The 3rd tree is the marker for the end of the 3rd line, this is the one Mark took in the video. I taped him making it up right after the video cuts off just by doing a little bump, but it got messed up.
Here is a image with markers to demonstrate:
The harder lines are further to the left, including the far left hand line that used to be the "bypass". Mark got a picture or two of me going up, will have to wait till he posts up to see it.
Lined up below Kodak getting out to evaluate what line to take.
Mark had some carb issues, here we are on the way out on Slab Pile. I will let him elaborate on this:
The price you pay for splashing through the soup bowl and the other water holes/puddles at uwharrie (mine looks similar but not as thick of a layer of mud :nana: ):
After that minor delay and some WD40 we got back on the trail and hauled @$$ a little bit to make up for time. Stopped briefly back at poser rock to let JoeD's cousin to take a stab at it:
Mark and JoeD's cousin:
This picture may look vaguely familiar, did a similar shot back last year when I was on 34x12.5s (no lift) and mark was on 32x11.5s (no lift but t-bar crank).
October last year's comparison shot:
(We didn't plan this by the way. We just pulled out and stopped and got out. Then when we started to take pictures Mark noticed the similarity.)
After this we headed back to camp to say good bye to Janet, JoeD and Doug. Saw them on the way out as they headed out to the lake to let the dogs play. Had to wait at the outpost to air up because the compressor was shut off due to propane repairs going on, and then headed home. Here is a shot of JoeD, Doug, JoeD's Cousin, and the dogs at the lake from the road:
Besides my $120 carnage it was a great trip. I took it easy on the truck, but it was cool to see Mark put the sliders to good use taking some of the harder lines that I have been wanting to do. Hats off to him for pushing his truck harder than he has in the past. And who knows depending on what happens we may have some more pictures from next Saturday's run if it ends up happening.... :kewl:
Hope to see you out there next Saturday. If Roger (Pastor) makes it too that would be 4 Gen 1s, 3 SWB and 1 LWB. That would be awesome. Here are more of Mark's pictures from Falls Dam:
My truck and his right after the rock ledge on FD:
It looks simple in the picture but the flex in the rear should give a hint that its a bit harder than it looks:
After making it up the rock ledge (that modifies skid plates for you):
Thanks. Would be cool to finally get to wheel with you man. We will be out there again this Saturday. If your interested in making the trip let me know.
I feel compelled to share these videos. This is the same rock that you see in the pictures with my truck, the gold truck, and the jeep on. The caption for the fallowing videos is.... "Its a Suzuki Thing"....
