Default So what gearing?

I am looking to put 295 75/16 tires on my rover They come out to 33.4" X 11.6"

So what gearing do I need? I would exspect 4.11:1 to work but am always up for learning!!!!

Depends what you want to do with your truck. Is this to realign the speedo or for off road capability?

Do you need to alter the ratios, really?

You don't have a great choice in ratios unless you change to Toyota diff centres. But 4.11's restore standard gearing to 33 to 34 inch tyres. Therefore they bring back engine braking, and a bit more power.

Be warned, they place more stress on the axles and you will need to upgrade to HD axles, if you have not already done so.

How do gears put more stress on axles???

Aaron, I would suggest you get in touch with Bill at Great Basin Rovers, there is no better person to talk to about Rover gears and or axles.

Because it increases the amount of torque that is placed onto the axles. Lower gearing increases the amount of power that is actually transfered. it's kind of like shifting down in gears. Is it easier to spin the tires in 1st or 4th gear? think about it it's actually quite logical. Place a bigger lever on a bolt and you're more likely to snap it.

This chart is based on 65 MPH and a gear ratio of 1:1, on a manual transmission in 4th gear. Please NOTE: If you have an automatic transmission your RPM will higher due to slippage in the transmission and the torque converter. With an overdrive transmission your RPM in overdrive will be 15% to 30% less than indicated.

4.11's will bring 34 inch tyres back to standard gearing. For 4.56 you would be looking at 38 inch tyres

On the auto box the converter locks up between 50-55mph. Also if I remember correctly the final output on the DI is about 1.24 or 1.27 I could be off on that though.

Aaron,
Don't go any more then the 4:11's. The reason being that because Rover's ring and pinion are so small that if you get up into the 4:56 range the gear teeth are not as strong and will break. I has only been in the last couple of years that the 4:11's have been reworked so they are closer to the strength of the 3:54's.
