Am I going to hell? - Land Rovers Only

OK... a standing debate between the Mrs. and I... this past Halloween we took my boys trick or treating... we ran into some people and among them was a guy in a wheel chair who obviously had some level of mental retardation... without thinking I said, "Hey look, it's Timmy!".... you know, the character from SouthPark who is in a wheelchair and has some obvious level of mental retardation... the Mrs. immediately said, "OMG you're going to hell for saying that!"... now, in my defense, it was Halloween, the kid was dressed up sort of like the Timmy character... and he got excited and laughed when I said it... I didn't say it out of spite or to be mean... he really did look like he was dressed up to be Timmy... I explained to the Mrs. that after having worked for many years with people with mental retardation that they usually have a really great sense of humor and that I was not trying to be mean... now, under other circumstances, such as, it isn't Halloween or the kid wasn't dressed up like Timmy, I would never say something like that...

Disco, you're so above my intelligence - I don't understand LOL.

IMO X, I don't think you're going to hell because you didn't mean it in a bad way. However, it is a fine line...depends on the person & how secure they are with themselves & how sensitive the are. If he chose his own costume he probably has a good opion of himself and wasn't offended. But some people do laugh to cover up their hurt feelings. Then other people can laugh at themselves easily. Like a fat guy that wears an 'I Beat Anorexia' t-shirt is probably okay with his being overweight... I don't think developmentally disabled people are any different in that way.

One thing I have noticed about people with developmental disabilities is that they seem to have more of a sense of humor than most people with normal IQs. I think this particular kid was just thrilled that someone paid attention to him rather than avoid him because they don't know how to talk to people with developmental disabilities.

Yup I think so too. I worked in a group home back in the college days - most had a great outlook on life and were very positive...I learned much more from them than they did from me.

And if you do end up going to hell be sure to stop the bus by Kelli's & me LOL

Naa man I've said some pretty stupid stuff in my day. Sometimes things just come out and well you don't actually mean it to be mean. Now as far as your avatar goes well you may be in trouble there.

Everyone is to pc these days......your a smartass like a bunch of us here and it sounds like you did not say it to be mean.
I work with a guy with cp and he has those crutches with the arm bands and gets around great. he has a tshirt he wears a bunch that says
i do all my own stunts........

he said before he got the job with us he was a practice tackle dummy for UT. and that one year he was going to dress up like a speed bump......

here is to you...........however if you said it to be mean.........shame on you mr x

oh do not try to breed the turkey on thursday ok..........

Reminds me of something my oldest son did when he was about 3... I used to work with this lady who only had one leg... I used to bring my son to work with me... one day he goes up to her and asks her "Where did your leg go?" She goes "I lost it." He says "Where did you lose it?" Kids...
