Default Bone to pick w/ G4 Challenge

OK, am I the only one who has a bone to pick w/ the G4 challenge? Similar to the (de)evolution of Camel Trophy in it's final few years. When it comes to Rovers, I don't want to see Kayaking, Bicycling, Running, Climbing, Snowboarding, Break-Dancing, Hoola-Hooping, Fire-Walking, or Alligator Wrestling...... I want to see WHEELING. Otherwise, why not just watch "Survivor" ??

When do we get some state-side Rover wheeling events?
When does LR step up & sponsor something like the Outback Challenge? How about the aftermarket? Our sponsor/vendors? Somebody who's independently wealthy & a Roverhead? Anybody?

Welcome to the people sensitive, "everybody is a winner", consciensus (sp?), and dangerless world we live in today. The Camel Trophy (I believe) was killed due to the fact that Camel cigarettes and macho guys "killing" the ecosystem were associated with the event.

Oh well - personaly when I need my fix i go to my CT collection - having NEVER seen any of the G4 challenges or 90's version of the CT.....live it yourself SCSL

The events now are becomeing more about what the people can do than what the machine can do. I wish they'd bring back the 4x4 comps also.. I think now all the 4x4 comps. are rock crawl onlt like UROC.

agreed, its just annoying. I dont really care what teams from other countries can do in thier rovers, I just care what the rovers can do in the team's other countries. Its become like the Land Rover Olympics, except without the land rover.

i have done alot of research on the G4 and we have some videos of it at the dealership and for the life of me I can understand why America wasnt invited.

The first one they did in NYC. The shut down seven blocks of manhattan and used the freelander on all sorts of rock crawl demonstraitions and other events. I believe the Disco was also used. Anyway no idea why Americans werent invited. In fact they still arent invited.

They have gone to Thailand, the Amazon, and other places and yet Americans arent invited.

I like that A LOT!!!! I'f im not mistaken, we are the most legit lookin site/group in the western hemisphere dealing with rovers...Besides LandRover.com...We have techies, wheelers, enthusiasts, and willing drivers....why havent we contacted LR for an event like this before???? Hek, it would be great for them to use the event as a marketing strategy....the footage could be for Certified Pre-Owned rovers, and the whole shpeal would increase resale values! Maybe im over thinkin it but the point is, I want a US Based LR event...Im with you SCSL!!!

We could have regional LRO challenges (note to Serg: that would be east, midwest, west coast, AND Rocky Mountain Empire ). Serg can sponsor for minimal cost as 1st - 3rd place winners would get a case of beer.
1st Place: Premium Micro (by region)
2nd Place: Premium Import or Domestic (by preference)
3rd Place: Any beer brewed in LaCrosse, WI

I'd love to navigate - I've had plenty of practice!

I guess the fact that I don't have any jugs (nevermind big ones) AND live in the other hemisphere probably rules me out...

Good luck on the talent search!

Is that a sponsorship offer?

I am so there. Who want's to navigate for me?

Given the 3rd prize (Lacrosse beer), I'd be gunning for that...

heres an idea. A land rover event for all land rovers old and new.

basically a cannonball run for lrs in australia.

Start out in Townsville Queensland.
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshell.../australia.htm

Finish on the west coast of Perth. where else but the beach.

There is a dealer in Townsville. Use him as the starting point. give all who enter the choice of five routes. one route is straight across the continent few roads and all the petrol you can carry in your land rover. It can be a RR sport or it can be a series three or Defender 130. The other routes will be a mixture of each with LR dealerships as checkpoints. The last route will be all higway driving. but it will be the longest. Down the coast of Eastern australi to victoria and then onto Melbourn and the princes highway to adelaide and then continue to perth from there.

give each route a different prize money. but with the driver with the shortest time the grand prize. The vehicles dont have to modified. they just need GPS tracking to make sure they dont cheat and go a different route. Finally dealership sponsored teams and LR factory teams as well in a private route selected for them with identical LR3s with no winches but only off road tires and navigation units. basically HDs with off road tires. as long as you own a LR you can enter.

It will be test of man and machine across great distances and a question of who is the better driver and who is the better machine and most importantly making LR the adventure vehicle that can go anywhere and do anything.

I can see it now. A special edition "LRO-Challenge Discovery". "Hey man, nice discovery, is that some special edition?" "Sure is, it's a LRO Special edition. It's sponsored by a few aftermarket companies so it is slightly modified, it's badass. It's won the LRO Challenge 3 years in a row, one of the hardest off-road challenges in the US"

An Oz challenge would be damn good, however have you checked how clean your vehicle must be before it is allowed into Australia

LRO Challenge . Sweet !! I love the Idea.

How much of offroad it will be ? Or how hard offroad will it be ?

My truck is stock , with Crap for tires . I would like a chalange that I could get wheels with tires and go offroad like that .

The beer as prizes are an insentive to do it , But I'll be very happy to finish the challage with out any damage .

Maybe we can do this somewhere like an average distance from anyone that would enter the event . Like I'm in CT and other person is in CA , we would do the Challage in the middle of USA. How about that ? So we all can do the chalange .
