Well, I have not been there myself, but I hear there are a lot of military clubs and places to hang out... does that sound like fun?

Thanks, I am sure there a few bars around the base. I was looking for some thing bigger. Do you know if they have an Olive Garden Restaurant? We do not have that here in Hawaii. I guess I want to play tourist in someone else back yard

I don't care to much if the place is expensive. Hell going to Mc Donald's here in Hawaii will set you back $10.00. And that is for a value meal!! Not much value there. Oh a $1.00 is for the dine in charge that we have here. Yes you have to pay just to sit down and eat.

Actually there is an Olive Garden in Tacoma WA om I 5...just a few miles from Ft Lewis. Just further up the road is the Tacoma Mall, but it's pretty lame.

Let me know what you're looking for and I can probably help. I'm just across the water in Gig Harbor.

Are there any other good restaurants other than Olive Garden? The only reason Olive Garden come to my mind is that I see the advertisements on TV all the time. Then I remember I am on a rock in the middle of the ocean. We get lots of commercials here for places that do not exist here. We have a the latest tourist trap restaurants like Bubba Gump, Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

As you can imagine, my wife and I have eaten at each of the tourist traps you mentioned...ugh. The only saving grace is the tourists sometimes where bikinis there..too cold in Washington for that!

Best places to eat around Tacoma:
Primo Grill and ASADA; both on 6th avenue.
Lobster Shop and Salty's; both on Ruston Way and both have great views of the harbor.
Pacific Grill in downtown Tacoma. Expensive but wonderful
Stanley and Seaforts. Again, expensive but great view of the city
Anthony's. Local chain but always great views. There's one in Point Defiance Park as well as across the water in Gig Harbor...only 10 mins from Tacoma except at rush hour
Tides Tavern in Gig Harbor. Great on a sunny day as it sits right on the harbor...boats everywhere.
Jazzbones in Tacoma (6th ave) is a great weekend spot for jazz. Lot's more in Seattle.

Hope that helps!

Dave

MAN!!! I realy wish I was there right now!!!!!!! I used to have the tides tavern t-shirt but I have worn it out. Gig Harbor is supurb if I move back I would love to live there!! A bit exspensive now though, much like the North end of Tacoma. Maybe up the Hoods Canal somewhere would be lovely. Anyway enjoy the tides and watch all the part-time yachtsmen try to pass eachother at the Harbor entrance and running aground. Much Fun!!!!

Sory for the late response.

GH is a bit expensive, but there are still several afordable neighborhoods and lots available. N Tacoma is a great area as well.

Let me know if you want another T shirt and I'll make sure to take care of it next time I'm there.
