Default G 500 (circa 2003)

What are your thoughts on this vehicle? Had a thought that it would make a good replacement for my D2. Any and all comments are welcome!

I have been on the hunt for a different rig for awhile now. I've looked at a TON of different options but they all get lost in the crowd and offer nothing more than an AWD minivan. So.. I came across a G500 and was blown away. IT can tow 7000 pounds, it's hand built, gets about the same gas mileage as my Disco, (3) locking diffs!!, silky smooth V8, and you RARELY see another one anywhere.

Same aerodynamics as a 110 (and a refrigerator), less room than your D2, WAY more expensive to service. On the plus side, they are quieter, don't leak when it rains and are slightly less prone to break. They will go anywhere, but I rarely see them off road. If you married a princess, get it for her, but the guys I see driving them are either stockbrokers or queens.

Well, my wife is a princess to me but she's happy with her A6 Avant for the time being. Although.. She has her eyes on an E-Class wagon. What have I created?!?! When we got married, she drove a Cavalier!! (which I made her quickly sell and surprised her with the Avant) While I have a diversified portfolio, I am certainly not a stockbroker!

It's a badass truck! I would say get one! There are a few mods avaliable as well. There is a company that makes 3" lift springs, shocks, and 16" wheels that look identical to the 18" stock wheels so that you can fit a better tire.

Seems like I see G500's on a daily basis around here. I parked my D1 next to one one day and was checkin it out. They look big on the road but it was dwarfed by my Disco. I gotta admit they are kinda cool looking, but their character can't come close to that of a rover, even a stock D1 or D2. The Galendawagen started off much the same as the defender, as a working vehicle. I'd take one anywhere but as long as rovers are around, I'll never drive one. Lets hope the new defender doesn't lead Land Rover away completely from their heritage. If the G500 has taught us anything, at least in the NADA market, I'd be worried.

My brother has a 2002 mercedes G-500 Black Drove it out to California I like the G-500 more so now that one is in my Family. However I would never trade or give up my Disco 1 for it. Like AAXD said they don't have the character of the Rover and I would feel out of place taking a Steel box off road guess one could say that about a D90 but it's a rover it has soul and it is aluminum and definitely just as strong. I've seen it off road it's good don't think it will out wheel my D1 though. Plus I can't see paying over 80K for that I got my D1 at 7500 with low mileage 74k and it to me is one of the best trucks in the world and very capable out the box. Either way when my bro comes out to california again it's on
