Default Im back, did you miss me?

Lots been going on since i was a "regular" here. Went to Africa, think i posted info on that; moved from NC to Maine; got a new job with the USMC and thats about it.

I got a posting in Maine at the Navy and Marine Corps SERE school. Friggin awesome gig, a bit weird working with the Navy but awesome none the less.

For those of you who dont know what SERE is, google it.

We have been getting adjusted to life here and i have been feeling out my job. I had to go through the course when we first got here, quite a kick in the dick.

Lots to do here, just waiting to feel out the winter to see how it goes. Where i do go to train the students it gets down to -45 and lots and lots of snow. here on the coast it wont get that cold but close and tones of snow. I havent experienced a real winter in a long time and my Zimbabwean wife has never experienced one, so this should be interesting to say the least. The summer rocked though, i cant wait until next June when we get our 2 weeks of it...

Anyways here are a few pics, for S&G's

i just googled it...sounds like a cool job! when i go to amicalola state park in GA in the winter, we see military guys stationed out of the ranger camp doing that stuff. they close down part of the national forest behind the state park (near where we offroad and camp in the chatalohooche) anddo survivial training in the woods. i wouldn't say i envy them, but very cool non the less! you need to connect with roving beetle and get him into another rover. also, there is that winter romp or whatever it's called every year in maine that should be lots of fun for you to do!

Sweet Gunny...I worked with you blokes at JFK Special Warfare Center back in '90 - teaching the first round of grads for Ranger school going through the recon class on SERE. I was with the Aussie SASR on our SFP's for desert wafare...I am married to a chick from Cape Town - they dont like the cold - good luck with that!

Gunny; I missed ya'. Does that count? LMAO! Welcome to New England. I did my first two years of college in Biddeford, before retreating to Florida, lol. I was stationed with the CG reserves in Portland through the Perfect Storm, and that winter my three story dorm got snowed in from a drift for over a week. (THANK GOD I was in a co-ed dorm)
Did SERE when I was with CG, had to do it with Navy/USMC of course because of the "under Dept. of Navy" b.s. Never want to do it, or even think about it again. Have fun with that.
Hope you join SNHLR - Southern New Hampshire Land Rovers since you're up that way. Look up Matt Browne for any Rover problems you may have. He's one of the Gurus, and right on the Maine / NH border.

You're going to like New England, and while -45 might be pretty rare, even for Houlton, I've seen -25 on the I/O thermometer at our place in Greenville (Moosehead Lake) So, just being in the back country of ME will cover the first part of SERE. Along the coast is bone chilling, but more from the damp than the actual cold.
There's great offroading in our area, all through the Allegash, but blackfly season makes it rough from Memorial day through early July.
Try not blowing your whole paycheck each time you visit the Kittery Trading Post. Matt Browne is just down the road from there too, so save a little cash for a visit to him.
