Default A informative Thread a possible Wenzel happening.

A member of multiple land rover forums seems to have been passing on some bad information on a truck he sold to another forum member.

It seems to be heading in the direction of the epic Pirate 4x4 Wenzel event. For your entertainment.

He was last known to be in San Diego CA, his name is Tony Simoneau.

And the for sale thread from here on LRO.

For that kind of money the guy couldn't have driven 3 hours up the road to check it out thoroughly before he plunked his money down? The only thing more pathetic than the 13 pages of kibitzers was that I read the whole 13 pages.

Default He could have

He could (and should) have driven the three hours to inspect the truck himself. But... and this is a BIG but, that transaction is complete and the truck was not "as described" prior to the sale. If the Dweb community comes togeather and helps him make it right, good for them.

---If the same situation were to happen on Ebay you would have PayPal and Ebay trying to help in whatever ways possible. Who's going to to help of new owner of the G4???

There was enough ambiguity in the numerous postings by the seller on three different sights, It should have raised some red flags in the buyers mind. Unfortuantly, it sounds like ignorance on the part of the seller, that has turned into nastyness. One of the things which differentiates Dweb from LRO is they seem to have so many threads, page after page, of one person getting pssided off at another and the entire peanut gallery chiming in. The buyer should either go the distance to get satisfaction or give it up, but sometimes you have to wonder if all the other posters would rather see it go on and on so they have something to beat their chests about. It's unfortunate that the guy got taken (apparantly) but I still say, with so many people out there either not knowing what they're selling, knowing and not saying, or saying what aint so, it makes the buyer look foolish by not doing his homework. Ebay & Paypal (one and the same) only go so far, $2K, and even though I have bought many cars off ebay, I expect most of what's written to be salesmanship and while I've been taken on condition of one car (hidden rust) I don't blame anyone but myself for not personally checking it out.

Default Good point.

Point well made. That's the great thing about the internet! We can choose what type of board (forum) we should visit in respect to what we're (the end user) trying to accomplish. With all due respect EVERY board or forum has bashings that last for pages. I dare anyone to post on the Discovery I and II section that Castrol 5w-30 is the best oil to use. You'll never see the end in sight.

The buyer got the SH** end of the stick. If he should have seen it coming is another story all together. Everyone who reads the thread will learn a valuable lesson, even if they only ready the first 2 pages.

It happened on DWEB, it could have happened here just as easily. The seller posted the same ad with the same comments trying to dump his G4 in a hurry. It's a shame.

Now you see the thing I don't get is that on his ad here he never stated it had HD axles or TT dif.

Yeah the buyer got the shaft, but I will say that you take a chance anytime you buy a car sight unseen. It sucks that things like this happen, but when you buy a car without looking at it first, thats the chance you take. The seller was in NH and the buyer is in CT, if I was going to drop that kind of money on a car I would want to check it out first or at least have somebody I trust check it out if I couldnt. It can't be more then a few hour drive to go to where the rover was, or I am sure they could have met part way. Either way with it being so close I would have checked it out before buying it.

As for bashing threads yeah they are on all the sights, but Dweb seems to have alot more of them. On here you get a few people that will start bashing, but the entire board doesn't get involved. It seems like once a bashing thread starts on Dweb you get alot more members that join in on it.

They removed the thread...or I can't find it. I wanted to see what happened. It's like a bad movie you can't turn off.

I don't know what all this bandwagon jibe has to do with anything, but a fraud within the community deserves everything coming to him.

It doesn't have anything to do with it. From what I read as I have been keeping up with the thread, when it was asked of the seller "doesn't it have TT's and HD axles?" He then commented he didn't know that would be a selling point and confirmed that it did indeed have these items. Like Tami said fraud is fraud and this being done within the community so blantantly earns the guy the right to swallow everything that is sent his way until he makes things right.

Bottom line, the seller is an asshat. He is a fraud and ripped off someone in the LR community. He deserves whatever he gets until he makes it right.

Yes, it is buyer beware, but that is no excuse to be an obvious criminal scam artist.

Also some recent updates on there it looks like tony flew out to san diego so he could be the defendent in a court case concerning if I read the docket posted correctly credit card fraud.

So I think this guy is a fraud and a scam artist. I brought the thread over here more as a fyi in case he started trying to sell other items to protect the land rover community. I also think it's b.s. and this guy should be nailed to a wall upside down by his sack.

oh and the thread is still there hasn't moved except for the number of pages...

Dont get me wrong I agree 100% the guy deserves what he gets and is a total ass. At the same time it is buyer beware and that truly sucks big time.
