Buyer beware is always good policy but in the scenario I presented the buyer would still be screwed by a scam artist who is starting to get himself in real deep in another fraud scheme.

I'm not disagreeing with you BTW, just quoted you to have a place to launch from

Default buyer Beware?

Personally, I would feel more comfortable buying my new G4 from an enthusiast board like LRO, LLR, or DWeb than Ebay or a long distance deal from Autotrader or cars.com. The reason? I feel more protected because 90% of the members Love their LR's and Love their LR Forums.... I know, I know, I know - - - I'm very naive... How many members have sold their LR here and still keep in contact with the new owner? I'd bet quite a few. When you purchase your dream Disco from a place you feel protected (I know, buyers beware) and get slighted, you lose all confidence in the system.... and that my friends is what pisses me off beyond belief.

By the way, Tony is an assbag....

True even by going up to look at it he might have not know about it not having TT and HD's, but he would have had a better feel for the Rover and could have asked for the paper work on the aftermarket stuff done to it and seen it before buying.

The seller in this case is truly an ass I agree 100% and it's people like him that make me not really look at buying a car from somebody on-line unless I can get paper work and/or take a look before money changes hands. I am not defending Tony in anyway. I just feel that in this case the buyer not living to far away from the Rover should have gone to look at it before sending money to the guy. Would have changed the situation, maybe then agin it might not have changed a thing either, but atleast he would have had a better feel for the Rover and a feel on how honest or in this case dishonest the seller is.

I think this guy is just a tool bag, I'm glad to see the DOHC Holiday is taking action against him.

I hope the judge throws the book at him and nails his nuts to the wall. The land rover community is to small for asshats like this to be allowed to take advantage of a member like this.

No kidding. Hind sight is 20/20. It's not like he was a spammer or something. Tony is pretty well known, he was accepted into the family. There is a level of trust implied with that.

I would probably buy a Rover sight unseen from Ap, TerryS, ArmyRover, CaptainRuss, and a lot of others I don't really know but believe them to be good trustworthy folk in the community. Call it naive to believe in the goodness in people, it's the chance I'm willing to take. It's a much better feeling than being paranoid and suspecting of everyone I come across.

It's the few assbags that make it suck for everyone. Rather than seeing it as an individual's problem and lay blame on the buyer or "lesson for everyone" rubbish, I think it's more productive to show these assbags we're not a community to mess with.

Exactly sideview! I would buy a rig off of most of the regulars on here and other boards with no issues. Wouldn't think twice about it, but assholes like this Tony (the knob gobbler) Simoneau ruin that vibe within our little community.

I hope he gets whats coming to him if didn't already on that case in San Diego, and if he got it there I hope he gets it again in New Hampshire. The state motto here is Live Free or Die, I think in his case we can move past the first choice

He could (and should) have driven the three hours to inspect the truck himself. But... and this is a BIG but, that transaction is complete and the truck was not "as described" prior to the sale. If the Dweb community comes togeather and helps him make it right, good for them

Just an update to this it appears that Tony will be buying the G4 back from Dohc Holiday, in a attempt to make things right. I'll update as more info becomes available.

Well I guess we gave Tony a bit to much credit. It would seem he was using that as a stalling tactic and is still a complete and total scum bag. He has not come through on his offer and has been feeding a line of b.s. to the new owner of the rig.

Hi There,

Just am back and checking out the forum. I was extremely interested in this posting re: the G4 from Tony Simmoneau. I haven't had a chance to review all of the posts but ... Cutting to chase, I almost bought this G4 from him in May/June. However, what he was asking for was so utterly out-of-line ( and contradictory - his story kept changing!) for an online purchase that I refused his offers/entreatments.

As the transaction unfolded, Tony S. struck me as a scam artist - which was hard to believe as he was posting to the forum. I am sorry to hear that someone else bought his story - he must have refined it over time. if there is anything that I can do to help out, pls feel free to contact me.
