ENTERPRISE, Ala. - A violent storm system that ripped apart an Alabama high school as students hunkered inside later tore through Georgia, hitting a hospital and raising the death toll to at least 20 across the Midwest and Southeast.
Horrible.

Dems nix idea of military budget cuts

WASHINGTON - Just hours after floating the idea of cutting $20 billion from President Bush's $142 billion request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan next year, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad was overruled by fellow Democrats Thursday.
That will prevent their party division on the budget cutting question. Just a few hours before this story broke they were considering a vote to cut the budget contradicting Speaker Pelosi's pledge from Monday.

Walter Reed general loses his command

WASHINGTON - The Army said Thursday that the two-star general in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been relieved of command following disclosures about inadequate treatment of wounded soldiers. The firing of Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, who was commanding general of the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command as well as Walter Reed hospital, was announced by Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey.
Well that should answer some questions.

Stocks stage comeback on upbeat data

NEW YORK - A still skittish Wall Street staged a comeback Thursday, with the Dow Jones industrials erasing almost all of an early 209-point drop after an upbeat assessment of manufacturing activity calmed some fears about the economy grinding to a halt.

I wonder why he's getting slack when Obama didn't? Maybe because he's served in the military, who really knows?
McCain like Obama, has said he regrets the comment he made.
And like Obama it doesn't change the fact that he said it and it was careless.

At least 6 killed as bus plunges off Ga. off-ramp

ATLANTA - A charter bus reportedly carrying a youth baseball team fell off an interstate off ramp and crashed onto the highway early Friday, killing at least six people and injuring nine seriously, authorities said.
