Default NC State Trooper Shot to Death

Trooper shot dead Tuesday night | CITIZEN-TIMES.com | Asheville Citizen-Times

Trooper Shawn Blanton was shot and killed tuesday night in a "routine" traffic stop. I only met him a couple times but what hurts everyone the most other than him being gone is that he just became a father 2 weeks ago. His baby was born premature and was right down the hall in the neo-natal(i think thats what its called) clinic while he was being worked on and later died. His wife was there as well from what I have heard.

Oh that is so awful......it is such a shame the number of policemen that get shot on routine traffic stops. His poor wife and sweet little baby.

Oh I def. know that....The quotes were my sarcasm. I read today that they have had something like 40,000+ pledged to the family. One guy donated 10,000 on his own and a radio station had an auction that raised 24,000. The highway patrol said calls just keep coming in about people wanting to donate money to his wife and child.

Here are a few pics from the funeral. Behind the casket they had a riderless black horse and black saddle that was escorted by a trooper. The last one is the guy who shot him.

I hope so!. We are so looking forward to moving there. We'll be back early fall for a while. We are both going through some major burn out. My pager constantly going off and getting no sleep sucks. My last "vacation" I got 13 hours of overtime. One of our narcotics team guys got in a shooting half way through my vacation so I was called back in to help execute a high risk warrant associated with the shooting.

I'll get some dates of our fall trip soon and let you know. Maybe it will work out this time. Seems like when we are there your not and vice versa.

I believe they put the boots in backwards for the riderless horse. The bagpipes always choke me up. If I never go to another one it will be fine with me. Nice to see the public supporting the family.
