Lost my favorite bitch today
. For those of you who don't know, I have been breeding apbt's for about 18 years. Had a lot of dogs in my time. Rosie was my favorite and she was one of the last of the pure nigerino bloodlines left. Rosie was about 12 years old. Had no teeth from chewing on rocks. Since she had no teeth to keep her tongue in place...her tongue would just go all over the place, like an unmanned fireman's hose. You had to wipe her tongue off before you could pet her otherwise you would be covered in gooey saliva and whatever she had gotten in to that day. She loved chewing on wood. I built her a wooden doghouse one time and covered all the corners in metal. Came home from work and it was torn to pieces. So I started using a 55 gallon drum with a hole cut in it. One time I saw her looking in my bedroom window. She had rolled the drum over to the window and somehow stood it up on end, jumped up and was watching me sleep. Kind of weird waking up seeing a dog watch you through a window about 5 1/2 feet in the air! She would "gum" her way through a fire log every week. Crazy crazy dog. But loved people. No one was a stranger to her. I always worried she would get stolen b/c she would go up to anybody.I remember hearing a ruckus in my garage one time so I went out to look. Rosie was up in the rafters! Still cannot figure out how exactly she got up there. Damn, I miss her. ![]()

MAN SHE SOUNDED Awesemo!!
LOL. I love her antics! Any pics? Im bummed these days because I am taking on a new old job and I wont be with my pups anymore. They are not allowed in the office. I tried, but no deal. Dogs are so coo. I took my dogs for two walks today, one mid day and one at sunset and I brought a big ol beer with me on the sunset walk. I laughed and laughed at how my dogs played. Dogs are so damn cool. Im stoked you had so many great years with such a cool sounding dog man. What kind of dog is an apbt? |

RoverX, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. They always say that a dog is man's best friend, I'm sorry you lost your friend today. She sounds like she always wanted to know what you were up to

Thanks guys. Yeah, my oldest took it hard. Rosie has been around since he was born. When I went through my divorce, dad (me) and Rosie were constants in his life. My younger two weren't as attached so they seem to be OK.
An apbt is an American Pit Bull Terrier. I do not have the big burly kind you see on TV, movies, and rap videos. Mine came directly from old time dogfighters in Mexico. They resembled the pits that came into the USA when the Irish and the English emmigrated in the early 1800's. In fact, I have registry papers on my dogs that can be traced back well into the mid 1800's. These dogs were not mean like the pits you see nowadays. These dogs had good temperaments - who would want to take a dog into the pit to fight it if the dog bit the owner, the other dog's owner, or the ref?? You would lose money. So temperament was a big deal. As a breeder, it is still a big deal to me.

Bummer. We have a female APBT, not the typical PB look, she's about 50 pounds, short legs, more rounded head.. I'd croak if anything happened to her. She's definitely PB if anyone comes around that isn't wanted, but anybody we let in she's fine with and might lick them to death, good with children, too. Total people dog, sleeps in the bed and has to have a blanket at night. Spoiled rotten. Sorry to hear of your loss....total bummer.

My heart aches at the thought of your loss. We believe our mutt to have a bit of pit in her. We laugh at Gina a lot because most of her actions are so dumb, but in the end you love them to death. I can't imagine what it would be like with out her. Even if she does fill up my back seat with branches she grabs when we off road.
Think of all the good times!!! My sympathies to your boys as well! ![]() |

I am very sorry for your loss roverX.. I love dogs dearly and have had to watch a few being put down, which was very sad... always made me cry.
Sounds like you took great care of her and I am sure she appreciated it tremendously! Take care, Serg
