Smile Sammy or David Lee Roth??????

Look guys, I know this is both sad a pathetic however I need an answer to the lingering question of who is the best singer for Van Halen? I have been arguing with my mates for years on this one......is it Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? I must say that Diamond Dave was Van Halen and always will be. You may be ending an argument that has lasted many years so please help me out and give me your two cents....

I know Roth was the original and what helped make van halen in the late 70's early 80's but I like Hagar better though, probably b/c I grew up in the 80's.

If Eddie wasn't such a jackass we'd have a reunion tour already that would make KISS's reunion look like a bunch of old guys in face makeup. Wait. that's what it was. Anyway it'd be awesome.

Can I get a Gary Sherone anyone??

OK, now that we have all had a good laugh...early VH was dictated by Eddie doing some great guitar work. Then they sort of lost it the last few albums with Dave. I think Sammy added something that Eddie lost a while back.

In the final analysis...I think I'll vote for Sammy. But not with VH, just Sammy "the red rocker" on his own. Soooo...anyone up for a trip to Cabo???

Sammy Hagar solo with ThreeLock Box...I can't drive 55 was great at the same time VH was great with Diamond Dave as the lead singer of Van Halen. I saw VH with David Lee Roth and also saw them with Sammy Hagar ...OU812.

Both were great...but it is kinda like comparing Gwen Stafani Solo or her with No Doubt....the music is great on both ends, but No Doubt is just more my style and better.

That being said David Lee Roth was just as much VH as Eddie was when they released 1984 and Jump ...Dimond Dave is a performer...and makes a show...Sammy never compared to Dave and actually looks a little pathetic on stage sometimes because he has an average white boy rhythm when trying to rock out...and you get those Seinfeld *Elaine* moments a few times a concert watching Sammy try to gyrate like Dave did.

Diamond David Lee...is a hell of a performer and has an ego the size of Texas....I still rate him right there with the Motor City Mad Man...if you have ever seen TN in concert he as well is a performer...not the best singer in the world, but puts on one hell of a bad ass show.

It is no doubt David Lee Roth...when he left VH lost half of it's magic, which Sammy only replaced about 1/4 when he joined the band.

Nothing against Sammy,,,VH still had several hits when he was there but just didn't have the same wirey spark they did with Dave.

David Lee Roth

Here in Vegas we have a cover band called Atomic Punks and the lead singer is a dead ringer for DLR. I think VH ver 1.0 was the best.

Diamond Dave, hands down. Van Halen was as much about the "show" or "experience" as they were the music. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am old enough that I saw them on their first tour and have seen them 9 times since. They are not just the same live without Dave. Sammy is a good musician but doesn't have the stage appeal that Dave does. I also agree, 3 lock box was his best work ever.

Nah, its in south shore, Harrah's I think. Everytime I walk through there, they're playing something of Sammy's or van hagar.
