Default urban cattle round up

Today I'm driving down treeline back towards daniels headed home. I looked to my left right around a shopping center a block south from the BP station and noticed a good sized cow trotting towards the road.

Instinctively (I've done this several times now with cattle), I flip on the emergency lights pull a U-turn over the median. Before I could get around, the cow had already jumped into the 2 lane street causing cars to swerve and slam on brakes. The horns and lights scared the black and white retard back into the ditch. Once traffic cleared I hoped the curb and kept parallel between her, the road, and the fence I had her pinned against.

I noticed she calmed down, I got out. found a number on the fence of a cattle company. No answer, called Lee Co. Sheriff's Dept and they sent a deputy out.

Officer Stevens and I (his crown vic on rode, and the rover off road behind the cow) corraled her back into the Commerce center fields and got her about 100 yards from traffic.

Officer stevens gave me the go ahead to go offroad and try and find the fence hole. So I did, drove around in some cypress swamp-like ditch and a few burms while looking for a hole. No luck, so I headed back to the squad car and chilled for a while on the roof rack to keep any eye on our cow, the herd, and traffic to make sure we had no more escapees.

While waiting an hour for an ag officer, we talked about everything from fishing to undercover cars (he ended up telling me just about everything he knew of at the moment).

Finally the damn Ag officer showed up (he was an old tard who didn't know how to use a GPS or a 4x4 to save his life) and chased the thing farther away from a gate we had pryed open. The cow took off about a 1/4 of mile down the field towards another road and lake...finally, after telling the officer to either use my truck or his 2008 F250 to chase and corral the thing, he took my advice and it began to work.

While Officer stevens and I were waiting for the cow to get into the fence with the Ag officer in slow pursuit with the truck, we had a scare with a large bull in close proximity. Officer stevens said if that thing takes one more step, hoot and holler at it while I get the shotgun to put it down. Luckily the combination of strobe lights, sirens, and 3 people yelling scared the cow back into the pasture and the bull away from the gate.

what a fun afternoon, it may not seem eventful but when 1 terrified stampeding cow gets within 6 feet of you or your truck it is quite a blast.

....i'm just sad i said "fuck it, i won't need a video camera today" when I left the house.
