I'm off to Central Kalahari, Savuti and Chobe in August. This year's trip has gone a little better, although it all nearly died as people dropped out for various reasons. Then suddenly, a couple of weeks ago, 4 people confirmed and bought air tickets
Of course, this late, there's no hire vehicles left, anywhere
A good friend is lending us his Range Rover Classic though, which is only about 26 years old. It runs well but needs a bit of an overhaul, suspension bushes and a few things like that. It does have a long range tank. We've worked out that overhauling it should be less than hiring a fully equipped Defender, even taking into account we have to fit dual battery systems, fridge, etc., yet.
Just been offered the loan of a Front Runner roof rack with jerrycan and gas bottle mounts. The best on the market and free We'll also have a very good price on a VHF radio, fully fitted, to match mine.
So it's all systems go and the countdown has started

I'm the advon party for the whole unit so I got us a great rate and my first 4 nights are comped. Their military rate in San Antonio is $79.00 a night THe place is very cool, people are really friendly and for some reason as the guy that arranged it all I'm getting the serious VIP treatment. Probably something to do with 53 rooms for 22 nights.
Seriously though my first nights experience with them great and I would highly recommend them.

I am all moved to Austin. Been hanging out , looking for a job, being a bum.......sort of Actually someone's house is clean, laundry always done, and I am errand girl, and I got suckered into helping put the brushbar back on the damn freeloader. It was a pain in the ass and I was filthy dirty by the time it was done.
