I have been running on premium gas with 10% ethanol. So far I an not to impressed. It seams that the truck has lost allot of it's punch of the line when you are trying to get on the highway fast. And I have seen a drop in my MPG in my city driving. Anyone else come across this?
That's good information Bird, sounds like it is time to move off that Island and get back to the main land where gas is expensive and the trails are good.
Seriously, I hope we see more feed back from others with their experiences using this corn fed fuel.
Have a good weekend.
Mike
Filled up last week in Delaware with E10. Went from approx. 14.5 to 12.5 MPG. And this was strictly highway miles as I filled my tank for the drive from DE to home in VA.

Get used to it, all gas here in Canada is required by law to have at least 10% ethanol in it by the end of the year, and I hear that the US is not far behind...
As for it being damaging, the computer will knock the timing back to adjust for it, it will not damage the engind (unless you are driving a truck with no computer and then you have to knock the timing back 1.5 degrees or so, 3 degrees for 15%)

I had to use it on a long distance trip recently and got significantly less distance before I had to fill up again.

So Steve, is this a good time to start adding acetone, to try and off set this drop in performance or will they not mix.
Any thoughts? Have a good weekend.
Mike
So whats the point of using this new gas? Is it cheaper at least or does the lower price just offset by the less MPG? So far all I've read is nothing but bad reviews.

talking about acetone, ive started to use it in the latest tank. It was about a half tank of fuel, and I added 4oz of acetone. So I guess we'll see. Next full tank I will use 8-10oz.
Partly as a concession to the corn farmers, ethanol will eventually MTBE in all gasoline sold in the US. I read somewhere that E10 is the maximum you can safely run in a Land Rover engine.

In some places in south America, they have pure ethanol, and run flex engines that run either or. And you don't have to drain tanks between switching fuels... if the tank is half full of gas, just top it off with ethanol, and go. The onboard computer switches the engine to adjust for it... sounds like a great deal. and the kicker is they say that it costs nothing more to produce the engines.... have seen some talk of the major car companies using this technology in North America soon....

I'm leary of mixing acetone with ethanol- might make Rum or something accidentally...
Sure, Ethanol is cheaper to make- but it's not cheaper at the pump so why do I care? It's NOT good for Rovers in anything more than tiny doses.

My neighbor is a mechanic who works for the city. He says they have had a supplier in Western Canada trying to get them to switch to a gas/eth mixture for years. He says they found that the eth mixture can damage engine gaskets so they would prefer to stay away from it.
