Default Axle reversal, mid engined project

Just an idea at the moment but:
I fancy making a mid engined 4x4.
easiest way i can see of doing his is turning an engine round and sticking it in the back of the car. Main problem with this is that the propshaft will turn the over way (car will go backwards!).
Possible to resolve this by:
-Turning axles upside down, but understand this can be ad for the dif? and make them more noisy?
-or put front axle on back and back axle on front! Then would need to work out how to make steering again for front wheels, and lock back wheel (although could design it into 4 wheel steering!).

Main question I'm asking is: can I swap the axles, or maybe just the diffs, around as easy as this?

And what would be my best donor axle to use!

just a dream at the moment!

Your a braver man than me. I do like to modify, but I wouldn't contemplate your idea. What you propose can be done, but not without considerable cost I imagine.
