Talking Back on LRO

Hey Everyone!

I went into lurk mode after we sold the DI a year ago (I miss it so) and moved back to the States, but have spent a lot of time reading the DII section over the last couple of weeks because, wait for it, I'm back in the driver's seat of a LR!

As you can tell from my sig line, this one is a '99 DII. I won't really know what shape it's in until after I pick it up in Miami and drive it back to Wisconsin next week - a buddy of mine from the Navy and I are going to relive some road trip adventures with a U-Haul trailer in tow.

Disco Mike has already been very helpful getting me up to speed on the Beauty (corny, I know, but it's only fitting as the DI was the Beast) - so a grateful shout out to Mike. Thanks!

I like working on the truck (already battling with getting the downloaded Rave CD up and working) and will be putting the rig through the 60k service "by myself" (as my 2 y/o likes to say). I'm looking forward to having an easier time getting parts and tools than I did while in South America.

It's good to be back!

Cheers,

~1,500 miles in 27 hours (we took a 3-hour break in Nashville to visit a college buddy). Left Miami @ 7:30 am Monday and arrived in Wisconsin at 11:30 am on Tuesday.

Then laid low all of Wednesday off to recover - I don't bounce back as quickly as I used to!

The Disco ran perfectly well, and considering that we had a 5' x 8' trailer in tow (washer, dryer, fridge), got exceptionally great mileage: 14.67 mpg average (we almost broke the 300 mi / tank a couple times!). I guess that tune up right before leaving did the trick.

Other than replacing parts that fail with HD parts, I'm not planning any real mods, yet. I learned from the Beast that the LRs have an opinion about these things, too, and that I may ignore them at my own peril. The Rave CD is key.

I did get a decent OBD II scanner that already paid for itself: as the old battery gave it's last breath (P0560) it caused a gremlin in the emissions control system (P0440) that I was able to clear with no recurrence so far. Replaced it with a Die Hard Gold battery. A subsequent load check at Advance gives the electrical system a good bill of health.

Being a So Fla rig until now, the previous owner decided to bypass the heater core when it dumped it's fluid all over the front passenger footwell, so I guess that's going to be my priority project this fall.

Cheers!
