I'm a big fan of the disco1, mainly because of how much less gadjets there is to break compared to a DII and the CDL is nice. It also has a smaller body and easier to trim certain areas such as the front air dam and the wheel arches.
On the other hand, there are few rovers better looking than a clean DII. If I had the cash I'd go with the last model year, 2004 since it had a CDL that had been absent on previous DII's. |

Actually... not just because I have a 96 but I've seen TONS of 96's out on the trail and the 4.0s can handle water just as good or better than the 3.9s. As long as you prep everything accordingly of course. I like my 96.
Colors: White Avalon Blue Silver Better yet: Sandglow Yellow ![]()

Thanks guys, I will keep an eye out for those. I notice no one really mentioned the 00'-02' Disco's. Is it a matter of preference or do they have issues
I've come accross several really nice lookin' 00'-01' Disco II's.Nice color suggestions...Btw, I ran accross a light green (not sure the name of the color) Disco II w/ tan int. it was beautiful.... I'll try to find a pic of it. |

From 00-03 the Disco's had no 'manually operated' CDL. They came with a terrain response knob thingy. The driver selected the 'appropriate' terrain and the car did the rest. A lot of purists like to do things themselves, push buttons, pull levers, lock hubs...that's why you hear alot about the D1's and their CDL, and the 04 D2. But, I've never seen a D2 not make it down the trail because it didn't have CDL. My vote, 99 D1 or 04 D2<----

Terrain response knob? I sure didn't have one in my 01 D2. The only terrain response knob I've seen is in a LR3.
A D2 with a CDL will make it up a trail a lot easier than one without one. I've seen it happen. An 04 will have a CDL and operate from inside. Late 01's through 03's will not have a CDL knob on the transfer case. 99 to early 01's will have a knob on the transfer case but no way to engage it unless you crawl under with a wrench. You can install linkage from an 04 or linkage from a D1, or you can install a solenoid to activate it and I've even seen some people just make a lever, bolt it on and reach under to engage and disengage it. Terrain response knob in a D2? ![]() |
