Default Best Project Rover for "Modern Needs"

Just wondering what the best project Rover might be for "modern needs." I don't know what that translates to specifically so I'll leave it open for interpretation.

Wow... that's pretty broad. "Modern needs" ?

I think, like any similar question, it depends on what the projected use will be. If I am interpreting "modern" needs correctly, we could probably scratch Series vehicles off the list. In North America, we can probably also scratch off Defenders. That leaves us with Classics, P-38's, Disco I's & II's, LR3's, and new-Rangies.

So we're back to expected use. That's largely a question of how much street vs. trail use, and what kinds of trail use (fire-roading, mudding, rock-crawling, bogging?). Other variables may include storage space if you're looking for a hunting/camping rig, etc. Price also comes into play. Prices on Classics & DI's are very low right now, though the vehicles are also getting older. DII prices have dropped significantly over the past year or so, making them a great buy. P-38's (IMHO) remain too problem-prone. LR3's and new Rangies are too damn expensive.

Since I just picked up a range rover classic, I guess I have to say that would be my vote.
