I bump the push gate with mine... and I want the lights on it not the bumper.
I have bumped cows too. I would rather bump them with that and not worry about cracking the grill or light. As for the little Aframe I have now... mostly push gate and to hold my lights. I can also pull up to the deer feeder and stand on front of the bull bar and check the level of feed. It is not worth a shit off road... but I have plenty of use for mine.

when bump a cow do you mean, nudge it out of the way or hit the thing at a fair amount of speed.
cause a steer doesnt quite bounce off the front of a truck and roll underneath with little or no problems Do you use it to cowtip so the farmer doesnt know its you. you know push the cow and honk the horn at the same time, startling it as it goes down. |

I have a factory brush guard on the front of my truck and on the way to SAE 2004 I hit a deer about 15 miles from the campsite. Now by the time I hit it I was probably doing around 45 (I had been doing 70ish but saw her coming and had scrubbed off a good deal of speed by impact) She must have squatted a little becuase I basically took the whole impact from the bumper line and down. The brush guard tubing at the bottom was flattened like an aluminum can and the plastic on the bumper was damaged, but it absoultely prevented any real damage. One of the washer pumps on the front of the washer bottle broke but that was the only other damage I incurred. I was able to ductape up the plastic, and wheeled that weekend, then drove it home like that. So it does offer at least some frontal impact insurance.

Well here's my 2 cents,
If you're gonna have either a brush gaurd, or bull bar, I think it'll depend on the severity of your off-road driving. I love both, mostly preferring the bull bar, cause of the accesories that fit nicely on the bumper section. There is this old early 90s Dodge Diesel driving around campus with the largest bull bar/bumper I've seen, which includes, compartments, and built in 100 watt lamps. Basically this thing adds like a foot more of vehicle to this already-huge truck! I should snap a pic and show it to you guys. I like bull bars best.
