Default Buying a Discovery II

Hi there,

I have found a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II that I really like and want to buy. The car is in great condition and runs extremely well. It has done 98,000 miles - should I be concerned about that in a Land Rover or are they one those 'run forever' kind of cars?

I also have a 99 D2, mine has 80,000 miles on her and I would not part with it.
Will it run forever, hard to say, but there are alot of high mileage ones out there and running well.
Does this truck come with a service history so you will know how it was maintained? What are they asking for it?

It is being inspected today as I dont have all the service history but it is in excellent condition and I have driven it a couple of times and it runs beautifully.

Looking at $7500.

Just like Mike said it is only going to run as long as it was treated well. I read stories on this board all the time about people having them for 140+ miles. Its just like any engine you give it tender love and care and it will do the same for you.

$7500 isn't bad.
What are you plans for it?

Hi Mike,

It's for my girlfriend to drive to work (only a mile from where we live) and for us to use camping, going to the snow and surfing trips.

As mentioned, it's in great condition and running really well, my only concern is that the miles are quite high but realistically, we will not be doing a lot of miles in it but it seems like a lot of car for the money so I'm happy but don't know a lot about cars!

The miles are fine, and if you get it and are at all mechanical, I would be glad to walk you thru some maintance stuff.
Good luck,
Mike

I have a 2000 Disco SII
Bought it 3 1/2 years ago with 56K miles on the clock. Now I have 134K miles.

I keep the maint up well and take it to a great Inde shop in Riverside, CA

You are a cool bro, to wan't your lady to roll in a tank like that. Usually chicks want a new beetle.

Anyhow, you will love it. I take mine to the desert camping all the time, pack it to the gills and even haul my KTM 450 on the back bumper hitch.

Hopefully all the wheel sensors have been replaced.

Try taking it around corners on down grades and hit the brakes.
See if any sensors light up on the dash.

Also, engage the 4 low. See if it engages easily.

Thanks guys.

I ended up passing on the car as the report from the inspection showed that it needed a lot of work as the car hadn't been maintained.

Thanks for all your advice though.
