My 2004 D2 has developed some problems that appear to be in the TC.
After a trip from CA to AZ, I noticed some vibration as I accelerated from a complete stop. Wasn't bad gas, not tire vibrations, etc.
After coming back from the trip, I had a shop put it on a rack and they said that the vibration is coming from the TC. Fluid is full and has been changed on a regular basis.
I would go for a second option. I you do need on, there plenty of good guaranteed used one on the market.
What sort of estimates are you getting so far>

I meant to say 108xxx miles, in the original message.
The shop near my office is very nice and is known for their quality of work & etc., but I think that the job is beyond their capability. So, they didn't charge anything after the diagnosis and recommended to try a more specialize place.
I will check couple more places the rest of this week and the next week.
My preferred shop is in AZ (360miles away), but I am unsure if the TC will hold up for another 3-4 weeks plus a 360 trip. I am out in CA and not expecting to be back in AZ until Xmas...
Ok I'm assuming you have the LT230 which is built like a brick out house. They do have a habit of chopping out the input spline (from the gearbox) although this tends to be the result of having some odd motor hooked up to it. The good news is this part can be changed in situ ie you don't have to pull the transfer case to do it.
Although is odd for the transfer case to die unless some genius has driven around on hard surfaces with the centre diff locked up. Hopefully the shop has checked all the uni joints centre bearings and the like.
Well, I own the truck since new and no I didn't do crazy stuff like driving 50pmh+ on the highway with the diff-lock engaged and in low-range... :-)
After another diagnostic session at a different shop this morning, the 3 u-joints in the front will need replacement. One completely broken and the other two have lots of play.
Shop also checked the rear u-joint which I replaced about 1.5 years ago (need to check my records), and said that there were some wears. But, I'd deal with the front ones for now.
Make sure they replace the centering ball and lube those new grease fitting 2 times a year at tleat
