Goofing off in the great white north.

As TerryS said, he bought me a 4.1 MP Kodak easyshare 2 years ago and it has been a love/hate ownership. I have taken it to sea with me 5 times and have used it in some extremely harsh conditions.(Law enforcement boardings in 12 foot seas with 30 knot winds) It has held up pretty well but acts up every now and then. I attribute this to it being used in harsh conditions. I bought a small pelican case for it and it holds the entire setup i/e charger, battery, extra memory stick, docking station etc. The only thing I have had go wrong that hasn't been intermittant was the charger receptacle on the side of the camera stopped working so I have to charge it with the docking station which is no big deal. With a 512mb memory stick I have taken over 30 minutes of continuous video with it strapped to the passenger headrest of my mini and it never acted up. Overall I'd reccomend the higher end Kodak digitals although my sister had a smaller one and it was crap.

Also, before you buy, find a camera you like and then go on the internet and research that particular brand, there are a number of discount camers site. I bought 2 identical camers about 6 months apart, one from a camer store and one on line. Save nearly $250 on the online purchase.

this is a good idea, however, the amount of phony online digicam store is growing. some of the trusted online resources are www.bhphotovideo.com and www.adorama.com

Ok, dpreview it is. I was going to find a knowledgable store and pick their brain, then hit the internet. I saw some good deals on ebay but I'm a little leary of scammers.
