Default Discovery ll Powerchip?

Ran across Powerchip and noticed they have a chip for Discoverys. my year 2002 4.0. $490.00

With a gain from 188HP to 206HP and 272FT/LBS Torque. http://www.powerchipgroup.com/datasheets/2/Lan0010.pdf

Any one have any input or experence with the chip upgrade?

I installed one last fall on my 99 Discovery II, added a magnaflow muffler and chopped off the resonator(I also use a K and N filter, but people on this forum say they ruin your MAF sensor).

There is quite a bit of difference in power. When I drive my wife's 2001 Discovery it now feels kind of gutless in comparison.

It does not hurt gas mileage, starts the same, idles the same, warms up the same. My Disco has to pass emissions this month so I will find out if there is any issues there, but so far no regrets. Love it actually.

don't you have to send your ECU to them in order to have it installed?

Yes, that is correct, so a down side could be if you took it into a dealer(which I do not), from what I understand they could accidently erase the information so you would have to ship it back, but Powerchip would do that for free.

I would not modify yours Stolen until after your warranty is up. Besides, the 4.6 has a lot of grunt.

I would call Powerchip and talk with your dealer to be on the safe side. If the dealer is made aware of the newly mapped ECU, perhaps they could avoid not erasing it, but at the same time, they may see it as a way to not honor a warranty. Check out frequently asked questions on Powerchips site for starters.

i would. your warranty still covers your engine and stuff. the ecu would still be covered. don't void your warranty for a few more ponies at this point.

To be honest, I am not even sure which wires my mechanic put in, but I do the have champion spark plugs as that is the plug he prefers.

My mechanic has worked on Rovers for over twenty years and was trained in England, but this was the first time he installed a Powerchip so..... but my truck runs great.

If you think that chip doesn't effect your mileage, just drive behind one, it will gas you right out of you truck. I have had 2 occasions where I followed early D2, once up in Death Valley and once down around Palm Springs and IU swear, you could bottle that exhaust up and re burn it.
I would really stay away from them, especially with gas prices as high as they are.

Mike, the chip did not affect my gas mileage.

Putting my 32 inch mud terrains on did though.

Right now I am getting with my 32 inch M/T's plus the chip, plus the exhaust, I get 13.5 mpg around town and around 18.0 mpg total freeway driving.

It has not been re-geared yet either.
