in the last couple years i have found NO Land Rover off roaders on the roads of Toronto and the area's surrounding
Maybe because of the price, but every single driver has been some snooty wench or some hi and mighty jerk. Now me being a business man, who makes a good amount of coin, has either stayed humble or was just brought up properly, because if anyone waves to me , i wave back with a smile ,trail Jeep drivers wave to me, even a couple of Bronco guys have, but never Hummer drivers ( thats a different story) i am now convinced ALL new model LR will not be taking thier rigs offroad, i mean i'm no intense guy, i just go through a few mud holes now and then, but damn! we could at least bond over the whole rover owner thing? so here's my personal payback, i get "redneck on em", thats right!, like Larry the cable guy, and as some of you know i'm black, which even makes it more fun. Saturday night i pulled along side this New RR, with some pretty boy with a hot chick by his side, so me and my boy Andrew were in my Disco got him to turn down his windoe, and i yell with a country accent. "hey Buddy nice rover! Ya poped her cherry yet!!" the guy says "WHAT???" i yell " your rover buddy , ya taken her off road yet?, ya muddied her back side?, have ya put her to the test yet???!!!" he looks at me like i'm nuts and his girl tries to ignore us, and says "um... no" then i yell " damn Boy!, what wrong with yal!, that like havin a hot girl and not it to her giving her up the but!, u need to hold that truck by the hair and ride her like a cheap whore buddy!!" his girlfriend gives us a dirty look but he starts to laugh, he says " not yet man"then i say " GET ER DONE!!" , and he says "Have a good one guys", while laughing and drives off, as me and my friend start laughing. and i didnt even get a chance to tell him about the site, i need some business cards or something! but i tell u what. i know i seriously put the thought in his mind now to take her off road the best way to get a guy to do something, is to make him feel like he's less of a man if he doesnt do it. ![]()

Wolf may be right,,, Land Rover are moving into a new "range" of life. Purchased more for status than for stamina.
There is nothing better than going to the car wash with my Rover covered from top to tire in mud and having every mouth drop. "Buddy are you nuts?! You took THAT off roading??" Every single one I see is pampered and washed, and they, the truck and the owner look like the only off roading they do is in the grass at the local country club while performing a U turn. So keep up the heckling Wolf, in fact go get it muddy and then go to one a car wash in a upscale part of town and watch the mayhem. Than maybe people will get the idea of what a Land Rover really is. |

Well, I agree most LR owners are snobs, but not me I am just a military veteran, professional counselor and soon to be dad who works hard. I never let this stuff bother me because people will always be like this.
Secondly, my truck is a 2000 model and is new to me and I will never take it off roading why, because its my truck. Its good to know that snow or pulling things won't be a problem but off roading nope not me. Thirdly, I am also black and felt that your behavior was very stereotypical and disrespectful because in this day and age you never know what people will do. What if the dude would have spit off a couple of slights that get us as African Americans ticked off, at you and your wife or girl. What would have been your response. I have fought for this country all over the world and I just hate to see people portray themselves as you have because in the end we are all just human with some flaws here and there. In short rethink, your comments because you could have ended up off road with a couple of slugs in your door. Thus your story is either made up or you have some real anger issues. ![]() |

Jesus Bluelion relax, A) to be sterotypical i would have acted in a "rapper" manner, not a country boy, Hence the ironic humor, and B) in Canada we dont have the racial and Gun problems u guys do and the guy knew i did it for fun, not to "dis" him in a jerk way. GET ER DONE!!!!:buttrock: ![]()

Well, yeah I only know of one other LRO member who lives close to me in MI, that can take his rig off-raod, but haven't seen him latey.
:That and the friends I know either A: have a rig (non LR of course ) and are too pussy to take it off-road B: Well you get the idea. In Ohio where I attend college, I know of only a few people that have rigs but haven't been contact by them. So I am resorted to go by myself on the trail (bad idea) or end up following some one to a trail and just tag along. It sucks sometimes. ![]()

I doubt there is much harm in doing what Wolf did with the new land rovers. I think anyone who owns a $50-85K vehicle isnt going to be doing much road rage.....I more expect that from those that are driving 30+ year old POS buckets.
....funrover....what year is your pickup?...1950s or something? ![]()

Contrary to popular belief new RRs and RRSs do get out every now and then
Here are a couple of pix from my local dealer’s run we went on last weekend. Beginner stuff with some cool scenery at Dutch Flat, CA. Lots of LR3s too. For most of the $45K+ truck crowd this was their first run, so some of them might’ve gotten a little more that they’ve bargained for, but still everyone had fun On a side note, there are 3 new Disco's in my neighbourhood and all are clueless why I'm waiving at them ![]() |

My wife and I were driving home from the beach last week where we had gone to a local Land Rover event. We had a good time, enjoyed the barbeque and oysters but as we were cruising down I-40 our discussion went to exactly the title of this thread, only with a different twist.
We had both noticed things at the event that we felt were interesting. First and foremost, only the Discoveries and older Range Rovers had any personality about them. The Freelanders were all stock as were the LR3s and the newer Range Rovers ... evven the Defenders there looked stock. But then there were the Discoveries, what I feel to be LR's failure at exploiting untapped potential. There was everything there from modded-up-so-I-can-drive-over-small-building trucks to the small lift kits to nothing more than a bumper sticked from LRO ... point being though, not a single Discovery was show-room-floor. All of them had a little twist defining their personality. One thing my wife and I always loved about the Discoveries was the image they portrayed ... one of adventure, daring, expeditionary and maybe a little ego-maniacal in a convinced sort of way. We loved that before we bought one and we still do. And then the LR3 came along. It's not that I don't like the truck, aside from the drive, not too keen on that, it's just that it's one step farther away from what has kept LR alive (in my mind) here in the states. Each time I visit a dealership I feel that LR is trying to distance itself from clubs like our's because we're not ... sophisticated? And maybe that is the direction they are heading. I won't step into the argument on whether or not LR3 owners bought them for their off-roading prowess or not, but let's face it - a minute few of those vehicles will ever leave the pavement, and that's all right. I do think they are only hurting themselves in the long run though by pricing their vehicles out of range of most club members pocket books, because fan groups keep things going and I don't think there will be as many LR3 enthusiasts as there are for the older RRs and Discos. In the end though I think LR could learn a thing or two by visiting some of the enthusiast web sites. There is a throng of people across the globe that are so proud of the truck they drive that they'll spend countless hours talking about it online. We relish in new off-roading pics, get excited about mods other members are doing and for many of us, help keep trucks going that would have otherwise long went to the scrap yard. But above all of that though is the pride we feel and the individuality we share. Not everyone drives an LR. But those of us who do are damn happy to and can't imagine driving anything else. |

I can't see myself driving anything else but a land rover however in my family where there are soon to be 3 rovers I am the only who wheels i have a 96 D1 and i enjoy the hell outta her can't say the same for my mom though she has a 2000 D2 and only uses for work, shopping and driving to reno when we go there. I'm trying to get her to see just how capable and amazing her Discovery is and what it can do. I guess when she gets another Disco a 04 I'm gonna take her 2000 and build it like I'm building my D1. My sister on the other hand she's getting a 06 range rover sport in a about a month or two I told her about land rovers awesome capabilities she just looks at me and said to me "little bro maybe I'll wheel with you one day but not anytime soon though" so I looking foward to that so I can demostrate to her how good off road rovers are.

If so, I call BULLSHIT and I'm amazed that nobody has pointed this out to you. I can't stand people who are soooo PC that they are afraid to say anything that might offend anyone. The truth is that was friggin funny and it sounds like everyone involved had a good laugh......so please save the attitude for the "Land Rovers on pavement website forum" maybe those other uptight LR owners will share your point of view. In closing I will share with you one of my late uncles favorite jokes poking fun at our own family backround, but please when you tell this joke you must clench your teeth tighly and use your best WASP'y accent (it's ok...to try) "How many Episcopalians does it take to change a light bulb? .......Two.... one to call the electrician and one to make the martinis" Lighten up dude.....life is tooooo short!!!!!!!!!!! PS. I bought a vaccum cleaner but i'm not gonna use it on my carpet....why? cuz it's mine and I don't want to get it dirty on the inside.......good luck in life!
