I had a feeling about that, drying out the cylinder and screwing up the rings.

Aaron, if you could post a pic or PM it to me, about where you sucked up the Sea Foam into, that'd be great. I've seen Lucas make some good products, like their transmission no-slip stuff, this stuff saved my ass once. I haven't tried the fuel additive from Lucas, I will try it after I do all off the above basicall, you know, the enigne flush, the Sea Foam 3 treament method, and new oil, etc.. Now my RRC has about 148K on it now and will change the oil at 149K along with the treatments. Should I run synthetic after all this said and done?

As mentioned previously, I use a product called Redex. It has been around for 30 years. The process with this cleaner is to remove the spark plugs and put 50 ml into each cylinder. So you warm up the motor and remove the spark plugs, pour 50 ml into each cyclinder, leave it for 30 minutes, Turn over motor to blow any excess back out the spark plug holes. Start up motor and slowly put about 150 ml through vacum hoses, etc. Then put a few hundred ml in tank of fuel. It does a great job.

I've never seen that! Looks simple enough, I'll give a try on something else, I gotta try one thing at a time.

Default Crankcase flush

I also used a product I got online called AutoRX. You can find it under any search engine. Pretty much the same process, then I switched to Amsoil. It is done slowly over a thousand miles and is supposed to be less tramatic than solvents. It is also supposed to condition the seals and gaskets as well, before switching over to synthetics. I believe I read about it on this forum. Worked for me with no problems.

www.auto-rx.com

I have no financial interest in the company.

As for the Seafoam advice you are getting to de-carbon. It works.

Really cool! yeah I've heard that if I switch to Synthetic oil right now, that it will find any minor oil leak, and make it a runny disaster.

If you are looking for a good hose to use to suck in some SeaFoam or anyother product, look for a vaccum line hooked to the manifold or throttle body that has good suction at an idle. Buy a 2 foot piece of hose that will fit that fitting on the engine, place the other end into the can of SeaFoam and use a pair of plyers to squeeze and restrick the flow of fluid into the engine. For the best results, you want to suck it in slowly over a couple of minutes at an idle, when the can is empty, turn off the engine for 30 minutes to let it work, then go drive it hard until it quicks smoking, could be up to 20 minutes.
Hope this helps,
Mike

That reminds me, will this screw with my cat converters and/or O2 sensors when I romp on it?

Seafoam will not affect your cats or sensors at all

I don't want to hi-jack the thread but...How do you know if the engine needs to be cleaned? I have an '04 Disco it is going in for 30k servie next week. I spoke with sevice dept and told them I heard a tapping noise from the engine bay so they are checking it out. Last oil change was 27k, per the LR service dept. suggestion.
Is the fuel conditioner that they use suppose to deter this sludge and varnish buildup?

It is a good practice to treat your Disco at least once a year or more for any potential carbon problems. Our engines are know to carbon up and it is easier to start some sort of mailtance then puul the heads when it gets out of control.
Flush your engine and keep using a good additive and you will be fine.

All I know is this, my RRC used to belong to an MD and he did not pay any attention to vehicle maintenence what-so-ever. He is a great guy, it's just I couldn't trust his word if he really kept the oil change intervals at the right order, not that I stereotype against people like that. I just want to be absolutely positive that the engine is clean and free of most of any sludge, nasty sh$t that happens to reside in the motor. But I will take your thought into consideration in the future, DevilDisco. Thanks!

Oh and yes, our LR's are known for some nasty carbon, looking at the thread in the RRC section about how PsuchoBiker's flame trap, literally clogged on him.

edelbrock used to sell a devise(I cant remember what they called it) but it had an ecu that controled the amount of water (with a special additive) that was sent to a small hose mounted above a carb. it prevented detonation and carbon build up using a sort of steam cleaning.
I'm sure on todays vehicles . o2 sensors etc might get fouled.
I knew a guy that used it on a 69 440 roadrunner and it did work.

Hey my auto body instructor (who is now a personal friend of mine) has a 69 Road Runner, but his has the 426 Hemi, bored to a 445, and his is a "plum crazy" purple color. Really cool Mopar! See the lounge and the Autorama thread, really cool pics.

But I am sticking to my original plan for cleaning the motor.
